Cornerstone Bank donation to keep WCAC clients warm

$40K to benefit Emergency Fuel Fund

Cornerstone Bank recently presented a donation of $40,000 to the Worcester Community Action Council (WCAC). This major financial contribution will go toward assisting local residents with home heating costs. The  donation will support the agency's Emergency Fuel Assistance Fund. Every year, this fund provides critical support to clients who are most vulnerable to high home heating costs and whose needs often extend beyond what they receive in federal assistance.

Last winter WCAC nearly 12,000 households obtained home heating assistance through WCAC's program, including more than 2,400 emergency fuel deliveries and utility payments. "We are most grateful for this generous donation," said WCAC Director of Energy Resources Mary Knittle. "These funds will help support the most vulnerable in our community struggling to keep warm this winter."

The Low Income Home Heating Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is open November 1st to April 30th each year.  The LIHEAP program provides financial assistance by paying fuel vendors directly for income-eligible households including individuals, families, single or multi-family homes, owners or renters.  Eligibility is determined by household income.
