Are Unions Bosses Taking Your Money to Support Their  Anti-family Agenda? The Answer is YES!

Michigan is  "forced-unionism" state. That means, if you work for a company or organization that has union representation, you are compelled to be a member of the union, or at least pay the union dues, whether you want to or not. Michigan is one of 28 such states. Statistics show that the 22 states that are "right to work" have stronger employment growth, higher incomes, higher standards of living, fewer residents on welfare and faster population growth. But there is another very significant factor to consider for employees in forced union states: their dues are used for causes that members may not agree with.

For example, if you are a member of the Michigan Education Association, (MEA), which is an affiliate of the National Education Association, (NEA), your dues are supporting an expressly pro-abortion agenda. The NEA outlines its position on abortion in its own Resolution I-12 (2003) , which states: "The NEA supports family planning, including the right to reproductive freedom." And according to the NEA's own literature, "reproductive freedom" includes the right to have an abortion. This same resolution also "urges the implementation of community-operated, school-based family planning clinics that will provide intensive counseling by trained personnel."

The AFL-CIO, which is a federation of 56 national and international union organizations, with 11 million members, also has a blatantly anti-family agenda. In their March 3, 2005 Executive Council Statement, they said, "The AFL-CIO reiterates its longstanding support for the full inclusion and equal rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people in the workplace and in society." In other words they want employers to recognize and support men who want to dress like women in the workplace; they want to compel employers to provide insurance benefits to homosexual partners of their employees. They advocate for these policies and lobby Congress with their members dues! A brief look at the "Pride@Work" website, sponsored and paid for by the AFL-CIO, using members' dues money, tells you everything you need to know about the insidious nature of their agenda.

pride at workDoes a private sector union have the right to advocate for such positions? Of course. Do they have the right to do so with members' money? Yes, currently they do. But you can put a stop to that in Michigan by helping to make Michigan a Right to work state. All that is required is passage of a law that says employers may not compel their employees to join a union and/or pay dues as a condition of employment.  Will you lend your support to making Michigan a Right to Work state?

Citizens' Alliance to Join Effort to Make Michigan a

Right to Work State

The Citizens' Alliance for Life and Liberty, as part of our agenda to pass pro-family, limited-government legislation will be playing a major role in working to pass legislation during the 2011-2012 session making Michigan a Right to Work state! We will be working full time to:

  • Lobby lawmakers to do the right thing and support Right to Work legislation
  • Hold lawmakers' feet to the fire if they fail to support such legislation
  • Educate the voting public on the importance of Right to Work legislation
  • Encourage citizen involvement through town hall meetings and forums
  • Financially support the reelection of lawmakers who are with us
  • Recruit candidates when necessary to oppose those who are not with us

We can't do it without you! You need to be informed and engaged. You need to contact lawmakers at the appropriate times through email, phone calls, letters and personal visits. And we need your financial support to print letters and brochures, fund our political activites, and to educate the public. We need you to send CALL the largest tax-deductible contribution you can today to help CALL continue to speak out and alert more families about the threat that union bosses continue to present to families accross our state.  What is the Right to Work Principle?

The Right to Work principle affirms the right of every free American to work for a living without being compelled to belong to a union. Compulsory unionism in any form - "union," "closed," or "agency" shop - is a contradiction of the Right to Work principle and the fundamental human right which that principle represents. Every individual must have the right, but must not be compelled, to join a labor union.

A Right to Work law guarantees that no person can be compelled, as a condition of employment, to join or not to join or pay dues to a labor union.

You Can Help Make Michigan a Right to Work State

If you want to protect family values and the sanctity of human life, you need to support making Michigan a Right to Work state. CALL will be a key participant in a major initiative to pass Right to Work legislation in Michigan. It will begin later this month and continue until we are successful in passing this important legislation that will not only greatly help our economy, but also provide protection against the anti-family agenda of the union bosses. Will you help us? Please make a contribution today. You can donate to us with any major credit or debit card right now, by clicking here.  Thank you for your support of Citizens' Alliance for Life and Liberty!
