Dr. Brad Hunt To Receive Cliff Long Leadership Award At Annual Gala

Coppell ISD Superintendent Dr. Brad Hunt will receive the Cliff Long Leadership Award at the Coppell Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Awards & Community Gala on Saturday, February 3. The event honors local businesses, organizations and individuals that have made a significant impact in the community.

Prior to being named CISD's superintendent in 2017, Dr. Hunt served the district for almost 30 years as a teacher at Coppell High School, assistant principal at Coppell Middle School West, Director of Human Resources, principal of Coppell High School and as the Assistant Superintendent for Administrative Services. Dr. Hunt’s focus is on celebration, communication, collaboration and commitment in working to ensure each child’s story is known, encouraged and supported.

He was chosen as a SMU Institute for Leadership Impact District Leadership Fellow for 2022-2023. In 2021, the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA) awarded him with the 2021 Communication Technology Award for Superintendents. This award recognizes superintendents for their leadership in redefining, upgrading and integrating cutting-edge communication technology to improve and expand outreach and engagement with internal and external education stakeholders. In 2020, he was one of only three superintendents in Texas and one of only 24 in the nation selected as a “Superintendent to Watch” by NSPRA.

Dr. Hunt holds a Bachelor's degree from the University of North Texas, a Master’s degree from the University of Texas at Tyler and his Doctorate in Education (Ed.D.) from the University of North Texas. His wife, Janay, is a counselor in Carroll ISD. Both of their children have attended CISD schools, with his daughter graduating in May and currently attending Texas A&M, and his son is a current CISD student.

In addition to the presentation of the Cliff Long Leadership Award, join us to find out who will win:

  • Large Business of the Year
  • Small Business of the Year
  • Emerging Business of the Year
  • Non-Profit of the Year
  • Volunteer of the Year

Jun To Step Down, Run For Texas House

By Coppell Chronicle

Coppell Mayor Pro Tem John Jun will give up his seat on the City Council to make a run at the Texas House. He plans to file the paperwork this week.

Jun said he sees a term in the Legislature as the next step in his record of community service, which includes time on the Board of Adjustment and a stint as one of the city’s special counsels before he got elected in 2020.

“I’m actually running with that same mentality that if I do get the opportunity to serve the community, it would just be the next level, in a sense,” he said, “but still represent the community for their issues and concerns.”

CHS Cheerleaders Perform In Macy's Thanksgiving Parade

By Coppell Chronicle

Thanksgiving week was a whirlwind for a group of Coppell High School cheerleaders who made two appearances on national television broadcasts from New York City.

Nineteen Coppell students — including members of the school’s varsity, JV, and freshman squads — were among approximately 600 cheerleaders who performed in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
