RC Strategies Honours National Truth and Reconciliation Week

As a team, RC Strategies has collectively been on a journey of learning and reconciliation. Internally, we have sought to create space to foster a collaborative and collective learning process where team members can and have talked through the issues of systemic racism and discrimination in Canada and the needed work of reconciliation with Indigenous peoples.

We have participated in formal learning opportunities including CPRA’s The Path: Your Journey through Indigenous Canada and team members have studied Indigenous relations and engagement through the University of AlbertaFirst Nations University of Canada and Alqonquin College

We acknowledge this process of learning and reconciliation is still ongoing and evolving with each season.  Team members are personally and professionally committed to continue their learning and furthering their understanding about how our planning work can contribute to creating more equitable and inclusive parks and recreation opportunities for all.

The journey of reconciliation is an inherently personal one. It is important, as we engage in this work, to recognize that we are all situated at different stages of the journey. We would like to take this opportunity to share resources that we have found helpful and welcome the sharing of resources with us.

Books:

  • 21 Things You May Not Know about the Indian Act By Bob Joseph (A great resource for a company discussion / book club! Ask us how we planned our discussion...)
