Historical Tidbit:

Requirements for Raynham's Secession from Taunton

Town leaders from the first families of Raynham petitioned the Massachusetts General Court three times before they were allowed to become independent from Taunton.

The Court set the following requirements for Raynham's secession from Taunton: "That the inhabitants of said town do, within the space of three years from the publication of this act, procure and settle a learned and orthodox minister of good conversation and make provisions for his comfortable and honorable support and likewise provide a schoolmaster to instruct their children to read and write."

SPECIAL TOWN ELECTION NOTICE
TUESDAY, JUNE 28, 2022. 10a - 8p

Dear Voters,
On March 5, 2022, voters district-wide approved the Bristol-Plymouth Regional Vocational Technical School District’s plans to construct a new District High School.
On May 16, 2022, voters at the Raynham Annual Town Meeting approved Article 13 to authorize the Town to exempt from the provisions of Proposition Two-and-one-half the amounts required to pay for the Town’s share of the bonds issued to the Bristol-Plymouth Regional Vocational Technical School District for the purpose of paying the costs of designing, engineering, constructing, and equipping the new District High School to be located at 207 Hart Street in Taunton, including the payment of all incidental costs.
This Special Town Election meets the legal requirements for a “debt exclusion” measure to be approved or denied by registered voters. A “Yes” vote authorizes the debt exclusion measure. A “No” vote requires the Town to find other ways, such as the operating budget, to fund its obligation to pay its share as a member of the Bristol-Plymouth District. It should be noted that a “debt exclusion” is not a permanent Proposition Two-and-one-half override. It pertains exclusively to the costs related to the particular project.
The election will take place on Tuesday, June 28th, 10a - 8p at the Raynham Middle School, 420 Titicut Road. All precincts vote at the Raynham Middle School. Absentee ballots are available at the Town Clerk’s Office.
Thank you.

Contentment
It isn't what you have or who you are or where you are or what you are doing that makes you happy or unhappy. It is what you think about it.” ~ Dale Carnegie

Be thankful for what you have; you'll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don't have, you will never, ever have enough.” ~ Oprah Winfrey

“Because one believes in oneself, one doesn't try to convince others. Because one is content with oneself, one doesn't need others' approval. Because one accepts oneself, the whole world accepts him or her.” ~ Lao Tzu

Loneliness is the poverty of self; solitude is richness of self.” ~ May Sarton
Of all the concepts I write about, contentment has been the hardest to learn. "Really?" My friends say, " but you have always seemed happy with what you have." "Possessions, yes, " I respond. (To these fictional friends I am having a fictional conversation with.)
But contentment with myself has been a hard lesson, and so I must remind myself often. I am good enough, just the way I am. My life is wonderful. Everything else is icing.
And so, dear readers, I wish the same for you, a sense of worthiness, contentment.
Enjoy your week ~ Jacquie
