The "dog days of summer" refer to the weeks between July 3 and August 11 and are named after the Dog Star (Sirius) in the Canis Major constellation. The ancient Greeks blamed Sirius for the hot temperatures, drought, discomfort, and sickness that occurred during the summer since that is when the star rises in conjunction with the sun.
Sirius is the single brightest star in the night sky and lies at a distance of 8.60 light years (2.64 parsecs) from Earth. It is not the brightest star because it is more luminous than other visible stars, but because it is located so close to the solar system. It is the fifth closest star system to Earth and contains two of the eight nearest stars to Earth.
Sirius is slowly moving closer to Earth and will gradually increase in brightness over the next 60,000 years, before it starts to recede. It will, however, remain the brightest star seen from Earth for the next 210,000 years.

Summer Slushy Recipe |
These spiked cocktail slushies are
exploding with flavour. Whip them up in 5 minutes and sip the weekend away in style!
Ingredients
- 2 cups frozen peaches
- 2 cups frozen raspberries
- Juice from 2 limes
- 1/2 cup coconut sugar (or brown sugar)
- 1-1/2 cups tequila
- 3/4 cup triple sec
- 1 cup ice cubes
Instructions
- Place all ingredients in a high-speed blender and blend on high until completely smooth and slush-like. Pour slushies into salt-rimmed glasses and serve immediately.
