Voted (unanimously): Appointed Kyle E. Lantz (roofing contractor) was reappointed to

a 3-year term on the construction Licensing Board.

Public Portal Update:

Changes Planned to Improve User Experience

GMCD will implement a new feature on the Public Portal.

The department’s goal is to improve the user experience with the following changes to contact information requirements. New Requirements When electronically applying for a building permit, applicants must select the licensed qualifier after the contractor is selected at the “Contacts” step. The Public Portal will display a list of the available qualifiers and the applicant must pick one before moving forward.

I. Select the contractor.

II. Select the licensed qualifier.

III. If the licensed qualifier isn’t listed

A. Verify the correct contractor was selected; and/or

B. The contractor license record is missing qualifier information.

1. Contact Contractor Licensing at (239) 252-2400 to resolve.

If the “Applicant” does not see the correct qualifier listed, either the wrong contractor is selected, or the contractor license record is missing the qualifier information. If the qualifier information is missing, the contractor will need to contact the Contractor Licensing Section to have their license updated. Self-Issuing permits require adding a contractor and qualifier.

Voted (passed unanimously): Appointed Three Regular Members to the Community Redevelopment Agency Advisory Board; Three Regular Members and One Alternate Member to the Design Review Board.

Vote (passed unanimously): Based upon the signing of SB250, the following 1st readings have been continued to a future date TBD. We suspect that based upon SB250 becoming law, these proposed ordinances will become null and void.



-First Reading of an Ordinance to Establish Maximum Density Limitations for Transient Lodging Units - continued from the March 22, 2023, City Council meeting.

-First Reading of an Ordinance Amending Chapter 56 Supplemental Standards related to Recreational Facilities.

-First Reading of an Ordinance Amending the Parking Regulations for Outdoor Dining in the 5th Avenue South Special Overlay District. 

Voted (passed unanimously): First Reading of an Ordinance Amending Outdoor Dining Regulations: AN ORDINANCE FOR THE PURPOSE OF AMENDING REGULATIONS FOR OUTDOOR DINING ON PUBLIC PROPERTY. The second reading is to take place at the City council meeting on August 16, 2023.

Voted (4-3, opposed by council members Blankenship, Christman, Perry): To appoint John Crees as alternate on the Planning Advisory Board.

Permitting/Inspections Post-Hurricane Update

Permits are NOT REQUIRED for: Tarping, Painting, Tiling, Carpeting, Minor Removal of Drywall, and Baseboards no more than 4’ above the floor will not require a permit. Roof covering repairs that do not exceed 500 square feet is allowed without a permit.

SB1718 - Effective July 1, 2023

Restricting the ability of undocumented individuals from living

or working in Florida. The law adds state civil and

criminal penalties for violations of it's provisions.
