WELCOME

Welcome to The Land Group's "Conservation Corner," a quarterly newsletter to share conservation news and updates for our loyal TLG landowners like you.

I'm Lara Jennings, a new Land Advisor here at The Land Group, specializing in Conservation Services. Our Conservation Services provide guidance to landowners interested in identifying appropriate conservation programs for their property, as well as assistance with enrollment and application needs to programs that are tailored to the resources of each individual property. I graduated from the University of Delaware with a B.S. in Wildlife Conservation and spent the majority of my professional career addressing water quality and watershed health through research, restoration, and education and outreach. The best part about this job is being able to combine my two favorite interests: farmers and conservation. I love to see planned restoration projects come to fruition, coordinate efforts between local, state, and federal partners for project implementation, and help farmers and landowners plan for the longevity of their property. If you have ever wondered about some of those state or federal programs and how they work, or if your property would qualify, reach out to me and The Land Group to schedule a site visit so we can help you find out!

We hope this information will serve as a resource to inform you of new programs or upcoming deadlines, new properties for sale, and interesting articles just for fun!

Delaware NRCS and Sussex Conservation District hold WRE Workshop in Harrington, Delaware

On Tuesday, March 19, the Sussex Conservation District (SCD) hosted a workshop for Delaware landowners to better understand the Wetland Reserve Easements (WRE) program offered by Delaware Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS). The workshop included presentations by NRCS staff that explained program eligibility requirements, payment rates, monitoring, legal process and more. Following the presentations, there was a question and answer session with a panel of farmers with first-hand experience of enrolling their farms or a portion of their farm into the WRE program. They answered questions and shared how they felt about WRE, their results and the process as a whole. The event was well attended and many visitors stayed after the formal portion of the workshop to talk with NRCS or SCD staff and fellow farmers/landowners.
