This year, we had 12 students enrolled in our Confirmation program. They are a wonderful group of students. We are excited for them to complete their Confirmation journey of making their faith their own, and we can’t wait to see how God works in and through their lives in the future!

Please join us in celebrating them—either online or in person—at the Sunday, May 19 Confirmation Ceremony, which will take place during the 9:00 am Uplifting Service.

Thank you!

Pastor Sunil Away

Please note that Pastor Sunil will be away at the annual conference from Tuesday, May 21 - Thursday, May 23. If you would like to speak to a pastor in his absence, Assistant Pastor, Paul Georgulis, will be available. He can be reached via email or by calling (215) 348-5224.

Volunteers Needed

Would you like to become more involved at DUMC? There are many volunteer opportunities that can take as little as one hour, once a month, once a week, or as needed. All slots are flexible and come with training.

Please check out the new Volunteer Board in our lobby next to the information desk. You can choose from a wide variety of options that include ushering, cooking, help in the office, working with Sunday School (ages 4-12), Youth (Grades 7-12), odd jobs around the building, and many more. Take a card from the clothesline and contact the person on the back for more information.

Not sure what you want to do? Pick up the handout on the table and peruse all the offerings.

Serving God deepens our faith and helps us meet others. Do you have an idea for a job? Please contact Laurie Lewis.

God has strategically placed us where he wants us to be in order to accomplish great things. He has important work for us to do: in the church, in neighborhoods, in business, in government, and especially in homes. So together, let’s get our hands on the work.

Financial Report for the Four Months Ended April 30, 2024

Submitted by:

Allen Mason (Finance Chairperson) and Karen Sablyak (Treasurer)

SUMMARY: Deficit for the month with much lower giving in April. Please continue to pray for DUMC, Gods’ bountiful grace, and our many blessings!

Giving: Income for April was $52K. On a YTD basis, income is ($85K) less than budget which is partially offset by the generous special giving of $68K.

Expenses: Our disbursements for April were $12K less than budget – Note that there is no Connectional Ministry expense as the Administrative Council Board approved the Finance Committee recommendation to withhold this amount from the Conference until DUMC’s finances improve. YTD disbursements are $28K less than budget as we continue to monitor expenses. REJOICE!

Net Deficit: We experienced negative cash flow again in April ($25K) and YTD negative ($11K).

Please keep DUMC and our finances in your prayers….GOD IS GOOD!!

"Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows". James 1:17

Caring for Friends

Thanks to this great team, we packed 157 meals in 30 minutes (1 more than last month)! We enjoyed having 2 recipes to try. We made taco bake with rice or pasta, corn (or cornbread when we ran out), and applesauce. We used up all of our frozen applesauce from apples donated by the Scouts last November.

We shifted positions midway through since every position is important, and it gave us more energy and stamina throughout the process.

It was nice to meet Michele. We look forward to getting to know you more.

Next month we will meet on Wednesday, June 19 at 12:30 pm. We will be packing franks and beans, fruit crisp, and veggies (this meal will be very easy).

We are thankful to the CFF angel/elf who organized the boxes for us and brought down the supplies so we could be ready to go.

Thanks again,

Lay Leader Insights:

It is no coincidence that the Bible opens and closes in a garden. "Jesus chooses nature as a place to teach, to speak, to eat, to bless, to heal, to perform miracles, and to refresh himself for the demands of his mortal life. Nature reveals to us so much about God." (Farrell Mason, spiritual writer)

In all four seasons, we can see God at work. In spring, he shows us birth and rebirth in plants and trees. Our world is sprinkled liberally with beautiful flowers as life reawakens. This reminds us of the Resurrection and helps us keep hope alive.

May Mission of the Month:

The Synergy Project

May’s mission is The Synergy Project. Synergy is a street outreach program of Valley Youth House. They work with youth ages 24 and below. Synergy works directly on the street with homeless youth living in cars, on the street, couch surfing, or nomadically traveling the country via freight train. Some are runaways, while others may have been or still are trafficked.
