Dr. Worsley's Wise Words

Summer is a great time to connect with family and friends. I recall growing up in eastern North Carolina on my family's farm and summer days were filled with excitement. Some days I spent the early morning hours gathering vegetables from the garden with my grandmother and late evenings feeding livestock with my grandfather. Other days, I found myself outdoors all day riding my blue huffy bike and exploring the forest for critters and special treasures. My grandfather was a tobacco farmer; at the end of the summer he took tobacco to town to be sold at the tobacco warehouse. Spending the day with him at the warehouse was magical, it was extra special if we made a stop at the café for a hot dog and soda pop. How do you best connect with your family and friends during the summer? Email cir@chesterfield.gov with your stories to include in our August newsletter!

Social Services

Chesterfield-Colonial Heights DSS Launches New Child Care Initiative

The Chesterfield-Colonial Heights Department of Social Services (DSS) launched a new effort in June to help connect families and child care facilities with quality child care professionals in the community. “Working a full-time job and finding a licensed, quality primary child care provider can be stressful,” said Caitlyn Plaskett, Employment Services Supervisor for Chesterfield-Colonial Heights Department of Social Services. “The same can also be said for child care facilities seeking employees to staff their operations with quality candidates during the current competitive and tight job market.”

Chesterfield-Colonial Heights DSS also plans to work within its own network of child care providers in helping them identify candidates to hire at their respective facilities– including providing access to necessary training and resources, and helping people seeking to open their own child care facilities in Chesterfield County or Colonial Heights.
