Tact for the WIN!!!

So much of what ails us is truly of our own creation! After over 30 years of working with Business Managers as a Salesperson, Sales Manager, Closer, Business Manager, Finance Director, and F&I Performance Coach… so many of those “AILMENTS” have been witnessed! None of us needs to be reminded of the difficulty associated with the sale of intangibles. The products we produce are nearly always limited to a contractual nature, and almost never sell themselves. We, therefore, must be communicating on an effective, relatable, value-centric basis. WHAT’s in it for our Guests?!?

Tact, according to the New Oxford American Dictionary, is defined as adroitness and sensitivity in dealing with others or with difficult issues. Catch that part about SENSITIVITY? Are we paying attention, constantly, to our Guest’s body-language and overall reactions to our words and actions? Are we employing the very uncommon common sense??

Car Insurance Skyrockets

by: ADT Staff

Auto insurance costs are soaring as consumers already face high sticker prices and loan interest rates.

The March Consumer Price Index report shows the auto insurance index jumped more than 22% in the past year, far exceeding that of medical care, for instance, which rose just 2%.

In March alone, the auto insurance index increased 2.6% following about a 1% increase in February...

The New 372-Page CARS Rule: How to Avoid Being Prosecuted or Sued

by: Terrence J. O'Loughlin, J.D., M.B.A.

On Dec. 12, the Combating Auto Retail Scams Rule, or CARS, was promulgated by an activist Federal Trade Commission. It will take effect on July 30, and creates significant new perils for dealers.

In the briefest terms, CARS mandates the following:

  • No misrepresentations concerning price and cost
  • The offering price, total payments, and voluntary protection products pricing must be clearly explained and disclosed.
  • Voluntary protection products must offer true objective value.
  • Consumers must provide dealers with express and informed consent.

The FTC clearly seeks to amplify disclosures and explanations that must be provided to consumers and, in so doing, create a clear record for prosecuting and litigating dealers for their disclosure failures. Prohibiting junk fees and deceptive trade practices are the government’s objectives. There doesn’t appear to be anything truly new in CARS, just a substantial augmentation of what is currently legally demanded. This is not to say that CARS won’t require new disclosures and protocols, as it probably will, after it’s been thoroughly reviewed and applied. But dealers should re-examine their compliance protocols in certain key areas to avoid CARS from being used against them. ..

Easy Creamy Lemon Chicken

From: Hayley Schafer

(David Schafer's wife)

Ingredients:

CHICKEN

2 large chicken breasts

Salt and Pepper

1 teaspoon Italian herb seasoning

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

olive oil

CREAMY LEMON SAUCE

3 cloves garlic, minced

2 tablespoons unsalted butter

1/2 cup chicken broth

2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice, plus more

to taste

1 cup heavy cream

Salt and pepper to taste

Fresh chopped parsley for garnish

Lemons for garnish

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Cut each chicken breast in half lengthwise to get thinner cutlets. Over plastic wrap, slightly pound the chicken to even the thickness as needed using a meat mallet. This is for even cooking and to tenderize the chicken a bit.
  2. Season both sides of the chicken cutlets with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning (per chicken cutlet, use about 1/4 teaspoon each: Kosher salt, ground black pepper, Italian herb seasoning). Dredge the seasoned chicken in flour and shake off any excess.
  3. Heat some olive oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Cook prepared chicken on both sides, about 4-5 minutes per side, until golden brown or until internal temperature reaches 165 degrees F. Remove chicken from pan and set aside
  4. Don't wipe the pan clean. Melt 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, then add garlic, and cook until fragrant. Add chicken broth and 1 tablespoon lemon juice. Taste it, and add the second tablespoon of lemon juice if desired. Bring to a light simmer. Then stir in heavy cream plus salt and pepper to taste until evenly combined.
  5. Return the chicken to pan and bring to a simmer. Simer for another 4-5 minutes until the sauce has thickened a bit.
  6. Serve with lemon slices and freshly chopped parsley. Enjoy.

NOTE: SPECIAL EQUIPMENT: Meat tenderizer tool or meat mallet
