RABBI'S MESSAGE
Both Pinchas and Zimri are identified by the Torah in our Parsha by tracing their lineage back a number of generations. Rashi explains that for Pinchas, the purpose of mentioning his lineage was to bring praise upon him. For Zimri however, the purpose of his lineage being mentioned was to identify him as being evil. Rav Simcha Raz questions Rashi's statement. How could mentioning the worthy lineage of Zimri identify him as being evil and serve as a source of his degradation? The answer is that by looking at the lineage of Zimri we are able to ascertain the example and opportunity that he had and lost. He was a descendant of the tribe of Shimon, from a family that played a leadership role in the tribe. The more a person is known in a given community, the greater the pressure for them to live up to certain expectations. We must be careful about the expectations that we create for our children and grandchildren. A delicate balance is always needed. On the one hand, they should know what we expect of them and feel a sense of pride and responsibility. On the other hand, we should ensure that our expectations are not unreasonable or beyond their abilities, as to not ultimately set them up for failure.
-As I mentioned in my Webdvar, the horrific murder, this week in Brooklyn, of Laiby Kletsky A"H reminds us about talking to our children about the dangers that surround us. I hope to touch on this in my drasha as well.
-Last Shabbos, Sharon and I attended the YU Championsgate Leadership Conference in Orlando, Florida. I look forward to sharing with you some highlights of the conference.

SUSTAINING MEMBERSHIP CAMPAIGN 2011
The Sustaining Membership program is one of the backbone fundraising campaigns for the shul. Sustaining membership dues supplement the general dues, which are set below the shul's average cost per family. Moreover, the program supplements the dues of certain families who are not able to afford dues during these difficult economic times. Over 100 families have participated in this long running annual campaign. The Sustaining Membership program is one of the signature shul programs for those who are able to do more for our shul and for our fellow congregants.
If you are a current Sustaining Member, as we have done in the past, your generous contribution will automatically be renewed with the next billing cycle. If you would like to change your level of contribution or to become a sustaining member, please contact Anne in the shul office at cong.aabjd@verizon.net or either one of us at michael_luxenberg@yahoo.com and barryhammerman@hotmail.com. We thank you, in advance, for your participation.
Alufim $2,500 / Nissi'im $1,800 / G'dolim $1,000 / Amudim $540 / Bonim $360 / Chaverim $180
To all of our shul families, those currently part of the program and those who are considering becoming members in the program, we hope that you will remain blessed with the ability to help others within our community. On behalf of the shul staff and the shul board, we wish you the best for a great summer.
