The Third Sunday in Ordinary Time

- January 21, 2024

Dear Holy Spirit,

As Catechetical Coordinator I have the privilege of preparing parents and children for sacraments. This weekend, Holy Spirit Parish is filled with the celebrations of Baptism and First Reconciliation. Personally, I feel closer to Jesus when I witness families bringing their children into the faith. And I find these two sacraments very linked together.

News from the Pastor - Facilities Update

Parish Hall and Church Roofs

I am very happy to inform you that the replacement of the Parish Hall Roof is complete. Thank you for your generous support. I am most grateful to the late Ed and BJ Lojewski for their contribution to fund the project. Please join me in remembering them in prayer. May they now rest in the eternal joy and peace of the Risen Lord.

Speaking of roofs! There is now a leak in the church roof. We are working with the roofers to determine the extent of the damage. More information to come.

Church Sound System

As promised, the 2023 ADA rebate will fund the enhancement to our 15-year-old sound system. We have purchased the equipment, and it will be installed in the next few weeks. The hope is to simplify as well as enhance the system.

Office HVAC

We replaced an HVAC unit in the parish office in November. This has been on the list of projects that needed to be done.

Proposed Fence/Gate

To ensure the safety of our students, the school will be installing a gate by the gym and the parking lot. The gate will be closed during school hours only. Unfortunately, the installation of the gate might eliminate a parking space or two. We apologize for any inconvenience.

If you have any questions or concerns do not hesitate to reach out to me.

SOCIAL MINISTRIES

Survival Sack Ministry

Holy Spirit Parish staffs and manages the Survival Sack Program at Sacred Heart Community Center. We gather on the first and third Thursdays of the month from 8:30 am to 10:45 am to distribute Survival Sacks to those who are registered as homeless and living on the streets of San Jose. Homeless clients may pick up a backpack once every three months. The backpacks contain a small blanket, socks, underwear, a large hygiene kit, gloves, hat, toilet paper and a water bottle. Tarps donated by Holy Spirit Parish (Turkeys and Tarps Drive) may also be available.

If you are over the age 18 and are interested in volunteering in this ministry, please click here to register for February 1 and here for February 15. If you want more information, please contact Tom Burgei or Patty O'Neil at  tnburgei@gmail.com or call 408-504-0909 to learn more about this volunteer opportunities.

Shower Ministry – Request for Help

Every Wednesday, Holy Spirit takes charge in offering use of our shower trailer that is placed at Our Lady of Refuge parking lot. The ministry has seen a significant increase of patrons using the shower. Because of the increase in demand, we are in need of assistance with towel laundry. It is quick and easy. If you are able to help, you can click here to sign-up. For questions, you can contact Row David – row.david@dsj.org
