Comprehensive Distance Learning Sites Open
Hello McKenzie Families,

We hope everyone is staying safe and healthy.

We are excited to share that we set up two sites so students can succeed in their Comprehensive Distance Learning (CDL) courses. These sites are set up to allow students to safely distance learn while accessing our services.

If you missed the school's email, please follow the link https://forms.gle/4SCSRiMiMFp1SXSM8 to let us know if you'd like to take advantage of these sites. Some of you told us this survey went to your spam folders, so hopefully, this works better.

Attending these sites is not mandatory, and if you have a good set up at home for distance learning feel free to continue to have school from home. These sites are set up to help support displaced students or students struggling with being able to connect to the internet otherwise.

We want there to be a place where students can safely access services and their online learning. Our hope in setting up these sites is that students will soon be able to transition to accessing course work four days a week instead of the current two days a week. We understand that this shift will take some adjustments to your family's schedules and, as such, we will be flexible and make accommodations to support student attendance during this time.

Both sites are staffed by MRCS personnel. Staffing will vary depending on the number of students and include an administrator, health screener, school secretary, learning specialist, and educational assistants. Teachers will not be onsite, as we have several staff and students who are still displaced.

Support services will be provided between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. at both sites. This is not a "drop-in" service, so we will need to prepare to maintain stable student cohort groups.

Please fill out this survey to let us know if you'd like to take advantage of this support.

We had a great first day at both locations!
Site Locations
Site 1:
McKenzie Main

Breakfast and lunch will be served and counseling services will be available.

Students accessing the school will be divided into cohort groups.

Elementary students will have access to the elementary library and art room to do their online learning, and to the Pagoda or outside area for breaks, lunches, etc.

MS/HS students will have access to a few classrooms to do their online learning, and to the Old Gym and outside areas for lunches and breaks.
Site 2:
Springfield Holiday Inn Express
915 Kruse Way

Breakfast and lunch will be served and counseling services will be available.

Students accessing the Springfield, Holiday Inn Express location will be utilizing the conference rooms and the zen garden area.

Students will have access to socially distanced spaces in the conference room to access their online learning. Our students will have dedicated restrooms to use that the hotel guests will not have access to.

When you arrive at the location, pull past the hotel's covered entrance; before going around the parking lot corner, students will enter through the zen garden area on the right and head into the conference rooms.
See the picture below for the drop-off location.
Transportation
If you have requested transportation to a site, you will receive a call from our transportation coordinator to confirm pick up and drop off times.

If you are transporting your student(s) to the school, please drop off at the High School building entrance.

From there, they will be screened, taking their temperatures and answering the questions outlined in the Lane County Health Screening document

Students attending the Holiday Inn Express location are asked to be dropped at the far corner past the covered driveway that leads to the main lobby.

Staff will be located outside to help direct families and students to this location. These students will be screened as mentioned above and directed to their assigned workspace.
Meal Service
A huge thank you to Kelly Hiddleston for helping us coordinate our meal service.

Breakfast and lunch are available.

If you already receive meals and your student is accessing a site, expect them to be provided at a site. If you do not receive meals and would like for your student(s) to have them at the site, please let us know by contacting Lorinda through email at lorinda.marcy@mckenziesd.org

Meals will be grab and go, and students will be allowed to eat (while distanced) in the gym or pagoda (school) or in the large conference room at the Holiday Inn Express.

Both sites also have access to outside areas for eating.
COVID Safety Guidelines

The CDC safety guidelines include required masking, six-feet spacing, frequent hand hygiene, fixed cohort groups and tracking. Your student(s) will need to wear a mask at all times other than while eating.

We are encouraging the students and staff to follow Oregon’s current travel advisory. The Governor is recommending that students or staff who travel out of the state not return to our sites for two weeks from the date of return. Please contact us and we can offer recommendations for your student.

We are all depending on each other, now more than ever, to ensure our community's safety and health and keep our school open.
