Can you believe we are in the middle of June already? The weather and nature have been teasing the growing season for weeks, there are many events and activities available in the warmer months, and so much good work is happening in our communities, all to make life better in Headwaters. | |
Did you know that the Headwaters Food and Farming Alliance, made up of HCIA and many partner organizations, as well as farmers and citizen foodies, created the Headwaters Food Charter to strengthen our local food system? Six pillars, 15 goals and 27 actions provide a clear roadmap for making a positive, lasting impact.
Taking action through our work with the Dufferin Food Access Subcommittee, we have compiled and published the Dufferin Food Access Guide. This downloadable list shows emergency food services and where to find food for little or no cost, the type of service (e.g. shopping model, hampers), types of food available (like fresh, frozen, prepared meals, sit down community dinners, vouchers). Click below to download it.

June 3-9 was Local Food Week but did you know that you can eat local all year long? Farmers’ Market season is in full swing and you can find everything from fresh produce and meats to preserves, baked goods and even skincare, art, one-of-kind crafts and textiles, all made from farm products. Find local markets in Dufferin County and Caledon, as well as farm gate stands and farm stores in the Headwaters Farm Fresh Guide. Watch for the special pull-out section in your June issue of In The Hills Magazine, coming out this week! Or check online listings here anytime.

June 26-30 is World Well-being Week. Some schools host their own Well-being Week any time of year that best fits their needs, and may include education on healthy eating and activities around that theme. Take this opportunity to chat with your family about what overall well-being looks like for each of you as a person, for your community as a whole and what world well-being means to you. Find more info and Facebook groups here.
