The National Weather Service in New York initiated a Flood Watch Advisory for New York City, in effect from 4 p.m. Sunday to 6 a.m. Monday.
According to the latest forecast, a strong frontal system will be approaching late this weekend, bringing a period of rain, strong winds, and coastal flooding to the region. Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible from Sunday afternoon through late Sunday night.
During that time, excessive runoff make result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas.
Around 2 inches of rainfall is likely, with locally higher amounts in excess of 3 inches possible. New Yorkers should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to act if flooding develops.
