Mercer County Tax Reassessment

WHERE'S TYLER?

This will be a monthly feature in our newsletter to provide updates on the County Tax Reassessment that is currently taking place. We'll provide updates regarding what sections of the County have already been visited by TYLER TECHNOLOGIES, the company that has been hired to complete the long overdue reassessment of all Mercer County properties. An informational pamphlet is available below that can hopefully answer many of the questions residents may have. The Commissioners are also happy to answer your questions and concerns regarding the reassessment.

MERCER COUNTY COURTS

A basic understanding of how the Courts work

What is a Criminal Case?

A criminal charge is a violation of the criminal law and considered an offense against the community. In a criminal case, an individual can be charged with a felony, misdemeanor or summary offense. Felony charges, such as murder and arson, carry the most severe penalties, while misdemeanors and summary offenses carry lesser penalties. If the prosecutor proves to a jury, or to the judge hearing a case without a jury, that a defendant is guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, that person stands convicted and can face penalties, including prison, fines or probation.

Election Corner Topic: Machine Testing

In late September, the County will test all of its voting equipment to ensure that the County and the process is overseen by observers from the Democratic and Republican parties. The party observers actually assist in conducting the testing of the machines used to tabulate mail ballots. After the machines are tested, each machine is sealed with a numbered, barcoded seal, and these seals will be checked by the precinct election workers on Election Day to ensure that the machine has not been opened since it was sealed at the Election Office.

For parents of current college students attending school in other states.

If your student has already registered to vote in PA, please advise them there is no need to register again in the state they're attending school. Doing so will negate their PA voter status, and any ballot they try to cast. Some college campus groups are telling students they have to reregister, or their vote won't count.

You or they can call the County elections office with any questions- 724-662-7542.
