VIDEO: INTERGENERATIONAL CONNECTIONS THROUGH CIVIC ENGAGEMENT

Community building is at the heart of settlement house work, and fostering connections across generations is a cornerstone of this work. During non-school hours, the Beacon Community Center at PS 149Q transforms the building into a place where neighbors of all ages come together to learn, celebrate, and get involved. Click here for a new video on how our Beacon Community Center at PS 149Q is connecting older adults and young people through civic engagement in the Jackson Heights neighborhood of Queens.

QCH'S INTEGRATED SERVICE MODEL HIGHLIGHTED

QCH's integrated service model prioritizes both immediate support and long-term community transformation. We believe thriving households and strong communities are essential to achieving our vision of a Queens where everyone feels engaged, supported, empowered, and has equal opportunities. The Pomonok Community Center exemplifies our commitment to this approach.

In July, Goodera released the latest episode of their Voices of Change podcast, featuring a conversation with Takiyah Weekes, QCH's Associate Executive Director of Community Services, and Patrick Pinchinat, Director of our Pomonok Community Center, about our work with the Pomonok community. MEET YOUR NEIGHBOR: ANYELY GARCIA

Our Queens Childcare Network (QCCN) proudly supports parents of young children by connecting them to affordable childcare and other parent resources. In this special edition of Meet Your Neighbor, hear from Anyely Garcia, QCCN parent participant.

"In order to work, I needed to be sure that my child would be well taken care of. My mom is in another country so she can’t help me, and my husband works full-time. I needed quality childcare for my daughter. Then, I learned about QCCN.

My experience with QCCN has been great. I’ll be 100% honest: since my child started attending her day care program, it’s as if she has learned a million words. She communicates better now and talks more easily with others. I’m grateful for care my child receives. QCCN has always been there for us, even helping to fill out forms or submitting recertifications so my daughter can continue to get quality childcare. I work as a home attendant, and QCCN’s support has allowed me to work the long hours necessary. It’s been truly life changing."
