September has been an amazing month for the Rouge Valley Health System Foundation. Along with our annual celebration of the Legacy of Care Society's members, we also enjoyed a truly successful Mayors' Charity Golf Tournament, where we also celebrated the winner of the Foundation's Howard Sokolowski Award.
While you can read more about these events in the story reports below, I would like to take a moment to celebrate John DiCesare, who accepted the Howard Sokolowski Award, with his wife Tracy, for their ongoing generosity and support of the Foundation in recent years.
John is a member of the RVHSF Board of Directors and he has shown so much enthusiasm for his community hospital that in the end, he was a natural choice to receive the award. Read more about his contributions at our website to find out why we found him to be so worthy.
As always, thank you for your ongoing support!
Sincerely,
Chad Hanna
, President & CEO,

RVHS creates palliative Care team
Rouge Valley Health System (RVHS) has moved forward with its objective to create a palliative care team based on feedback from community focus groups held on end-of-life care between December 2014 and January 2015, and support from the RVHS Board of Directors.
The focus groups, led by Rouge Valley's volunteer Community Advisory Group (CAG), consisted of representation from community members, hospital staff, physicians, the hospital Board, and hospital senior management. Based on these groups, and a follow-up session to confirm the findings, the CAG published the Report on End-of-Life Care Patient/Family Experience in July 2015.
Several ideas for change brought forward by the focus groups, including the creation of a palliative care team at Rouge Valley, were contained within the report. A palliative care steering committee was formed at RVHS to oversee the implementation of these ideas.
