ECTC Giving Day set for April 25

ECTC is pleased to announce the launch of its inaugural ECTC Giving Day on April 25 during Community College Month. The event will support student needs such as scholarships, transportation assistance and the Student Emergency Fund, among others.

“Many of our students need a little extra support to complete their studies, whether that takes the form of gas cards, help with rent, or even assistance purchasing a cap and gown to wear at graduation,” said Chief Institutional Advancement Officer and ECTC Foundation Executive Director Dr. Megan Stith. “We’re excited to help these students who work so hard to build better lives for themselves and their families.”

Diesel technology program earns national accreditation

ECTC's diesel technology program continues to meet the requirements for master Truck Service Technology, the highest level of program accreditation recognized by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence.

To achieve this coveted recognition, ECTC’s diesel technology training program underwent rigorous evaluation by the ASE Education Foundation.

Multi-Cultural Fair is April 25

ECTC's Office of Cultural Diversity invites the community to attend the 2024 Multi-Cultural Fair, an event filled with international food, music, performers and more. The event, held 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 25 in the courtyard of the James S. Owen building on the college’s main campus, is free and open to the public.

“ECTC’s Multi-Cultural Fair is a good way for us to showcase the college’s diversity,” said ECTC Director of Cultural Diversity Jerisia Lamons. “We welcome students and employees from all walks of life, and we celebrate the fact that we all bring our own unique circumstances and experiences to the table.”

SWEDA donates $1,000 toward ECTC Springfield welding class

Springfield-Washington County Economic Development Authority has donated $1,000 to ECTC’s Springfield campus to support a new welding for maintenance class. The gift will help ECTC offer local training opportunities in career paths that are growing in the region, building a stronger, highly skilled workforce.

ECTC PTK chapter earns 11 awards at state conference

The ECTC Phi Theta Kappa chapter, Alpha Lambda Delta, was recently honored for an array of achievements at the state PTK conference held March 22-23 at Big Sandy Community and Technical College.

“I am incredibly proud of everyone involved, as these awards are a testament to the hard work put in over the past two semesters,” said ECTC faculty member and PTK advisor Kevin Parrett. “Furthermore, the awards highlight the strong sense of teamwork and camaraderie within PTK on our campus.”

ECTC on the rise from good to great

April is Community College Month, a time to reflect on the impact community colleges have in the lives of students and entire communities. This year, the time of recognition is especially important as ECTC celebrates its 60th anniversary.

Community leaders who were nothing short of visionary invested years championing and establishing the college. What pride they must have felt when the college first opened its doors in 1964 to 355 students, and what pride that legacy has given so many since.

Dual Credit Program jump starts college and career

ECTC’s dual credit program allows students to earn high school and college credit simultaneously at half the cost of normal tuition. Beyond saving time and money, dual credit prepares students for a successful transition to being an ECTC student.

Welding student, Metallica Scholar seeks better life for kids

“Welding is a form of art,” said Metallica Scholar and ECTC welding student Megan Miller. “This is something I’ve always wanted to do. I’m more of a physical type of person and I don’t want to sit behind a desk.”

Miller has been at ECTC since spring of 2023. After graduating high school in 2010 in Georgia, she had a rough patch that included drug addiction and homelessness. Now married to a military veteran, she has four children – two boys and two stepdaughters.
