Making Meaning of Suicide Loss:

Stories from Lived Experience

September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) and Beach Cities Health District invite you to virtually join NAMI South Bay’s monthly meeting as we discuss surviving suicide loss. We will be viewing a webinar featuring Dr. Ken Duckworth, the NAMI National Chief Medical Director, as he facilitates a discussion with four individuals who share their story of surviving a suicide loss. We will also discuss resources and suicide prevention efforts, including the implementation of the 988 suicide and crisis lifeline and recent legislative efforts including Community, Assistance, Recovery and Empowerment (CARE) Court plan.

The South Bay Dementia Education Consortium and Beach Cities Health District invite you to join our conversation as we connect around our shared and individual experiences of grief. The discussion will speak to the emotional, physical, and spiritual impact of loss and map out the roads that lead toward healing and recovery.

QPR Suicide Prevention Training

During Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health is hosting a QPR Suicide Prevention virtual training to help individuals recognize warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to Question, Persuade and Refer someone to get help. Learn skills to engage someone in crisis to discuss their distress, provide hope and refer them to someone who can formally assess and intervene.
