ABA associate professor awarded for outstanding mentorship

Sarah Bloom, PhD, BCBA-D, an associate professor in the Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) program in the Department of Child and Family Studies, was recognized with the Outstanding Mentor award at the 2023 Association for Behavior Analysis Conference. The award is a direct result of Bloom's students' efforts to recognize her exemplary mentorship. Their testimonials highlight her dedication, the impact she has made on their lives, and her unwavering commitment to the field of behavior analysis.

Students share social work research at conference in Spain


While studying abroad in Alicante, Spain, USF students participated in an interprofessional conference organized by the Department of Occupational Therapy at the University of Miguel Hernandez, Spain. Alongside School of Social Work faculty Iraida Carrion, PhD, LCSW and Manisha Joshi, PhD, MPH, MSW, students Paul Muñoz and Megan Jarvis presented “Examining Social Work Practice in the U.S. and the Role of Occupational Therapy.” The presentation covered topics such as cultural competence, interdisciplinary collaboration between social workers and occupational therapists, and current research and trends in providing comprehensive care to clients. Students reflect on School of Social Work’s 2023 Spain study abroad program


When the spring semester came to a close, a group of excited Bulls began preparations for an immersive, two-week experience in Spain. Lead by School of Social Work faculty Iraida Carrion, PhD, LCSW and Manisha Joshi, PhD, MPH, MSW, a combined cohort of nineteen undergraduate and graduate students from varying disciplines engaged in a comparative study of the sociocultural context of people’s health in Spain, as related to experiences and systems in the United States. Students were encouraged to reflect on their experiences through intentional journaling and regular group meetings known as Circle of Reflection. Read more.

Born and raised in Tampa, FL, Clara Reynolds, MBA is the CEO of the Crisis Center of Tampa Bay and has been a social worker in Tampa since 1993. LAUNCH Academy Seeking Peer Mentors


LAUNCH Academy is recruiting USF students to serve as volunteer peer mentors. Duties will include supporting young autistic adults for four hours per week, helping LAUNCH Academy participants complete weekly mentor assignments and activities, serving as a positive role model and friend, and more. Students may be able to count their peer mentoring hours toward credits or an internship. The deadline to apply is July 10 and more information is available here. Please share this opportunity with your networks and students!

Virtual 2023 Summer Institute: Strategies to Support School-Aged Children with Severe Emotional and Behavioral Disorders

June 30 | 9 a.m. - noon


The second presentation in this series will introduce a systems of care approach to promote family-school collaboration in the problem-solving process when addressing mental health concerns of students. The third presentation will provide an overview of assistive technology (AT) and introduce multiple levels of AT and instructional technologies that can be incorporated into lives of children with disabilities to enhance their learning and promote success in schools.
