Social Work student receives APA Interdisciplinary Minority Fellowship
Shelton Gilyard Jr., a doctoral student in the School of Social Work, has accepted the American Psychological Association (APA) Interdisciplinary Minority Fellowship. This fellowship supports the training of minority graduate students who are committed to improving the quality of care provided to ethnic and racial minorities who have a mental or co-occurring mental and substance use disorder. CSD revives community speech/language and hearing screening initiative
Graduate students in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) are once again going into the community to provide free preschool speech/language and hearing screenings to children at local schools. This program had been suspended for two years due to the pandemic; however, Marian Lowther, MS, CCC-SLP, clinical assistant instructor in CSD, has worked to reconnect with previous sites and develop new sites to expand the program.
The newest site for the program is Zoo School at ZooTampa at Lowry Park. Recently, graduate students conducted speech/language and hearing screenings for over 30 students. Read more.

RMHC alumna profiled in USF Boundless Bulls series
Amber Jankowski, a Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling (RMHC) alumna, was the military equivalent of a dental hygienist in the U.S. Air Force before four hand surgeries changed her career path forever. After being medically discharged, Jankowski turned to serving those who faced similar challenges as she did and became a vocational rehabilitation counselor. In her position, she helps individuals with disabilities find something they are successful at and works to normalize the wide variety of skills people can have. Read more.

The purpose of the Florida Maternal, Infant and Early Childhood Home Visiting (MIECHV) Initiative is to implement selected Health Resources Services Administration-approved, evidence-based home visiting programs with the intent of strengthening and improving the health and well-being of Florida MIECHV Initiative eligible families within the framework of life course development and a social ecological perspective. The goal of the study is to examine child maltreatment outcomes for the participant in the MIECHV intervention.
