Updates From Kristin...

Last week I had a few coaching clients who had big "pain points" in their business.

For all of these clients, they were issues that had been happening for months and for one of them, the pain point had been happening for years. (Oy!)

Here's the thing: it's common to have challenges in your pet business. In fact, if you don't have challenges every now and again your business is most likely stagnant and not growing.

But when you have pain points the secret is to dealing with them sooner rather than later.

I invite you to notice where your pain points are and to take care of those issues in your business that are causing you regular, ongoing stress.

A "pain point" can be anything from a troublesome staff member or client to having policies and procedures that no longer work for where your business is at today.

Below I share some common challenges that pet business owners may experience and how to quickly rectify them.

But before you go there, let me ask you a question: Do you feel excited and energized by your pet business or fried and burned out by your business?

One of the biggest pain points for pet business owners is the dreaded burnout.

If you have felt pet business burnout you know that it's something to be taken seriously. Not addressing it can cause illness, divorce, depression and a lack of a social circle. If you have suffered from pet business burnout or are in the throes of it right now, you know. It's not pretty.

But don't worry because there's hope...

The upcoming CATAPULT 4-Week Pet Business Program helps remedy burnout. You'll also learn powerful strategies to jumpstart your pet business and to create more money, time and freedom.

Many graduates of the CATAPULT Program report feeling lighter, freer and more happy. They often discover an empowering work/life balance that is in alignment with how they want to truly live and run their business.

After the Catapult, graduates often put their personal life where it belongs: above their pet business. (And yes, their pet business thrives and profits!)

Want to find out how? Come join the Catapult Program that is happening soon and discover for yourself what having a life is like (have you forgotten?)

This class will help you remember who you were before you started your all-consuming pet business.

We've got lots of pet business owners from all over the world signed up for the Catapult 4-Week Pet Business Program that starts soon. I'm so excited.

3 Common Challenges Pet Business Owners Face (And How to Deal With Them)

Every week I coach pet business owners who are experiencing challenges in various areas of running their pet business including start up and launching, hiring and marketing, etc.

I wanted to share some of common challenges that often arise when running a pet business.

Challenge #1: Your pet sitting clients are often late in paying you and you have to contact them multiple times to get payment.

Solution A:  Stop accepting checks. Get a merchant credit card machine to have control over when they pay. PayPal is great but your clients have to do it so you still don't have control over when you get your money and this can impact cash flow. Costco has incredibly great rates for merchant credit card processing.

Solution B: If you have pet sitting clients who must pay by check: have them mail a check prior to departure. Say to them: "In order to reserve your service we will need to receive payment at least 3 days prior to departure. A post-dated check for the final date of service is also fine." Business owners: the important thing is to get full payment prior to departure so you are not waiting for payment!

Challenge #2: You don't know why but you often attract difficult and ultra-picky clients who are challenging to work with.

Solution A: Get skilled at seeing the signs of impossible clients. Some clues: When they say "we've gone through 3 dog trainers this year", they write many pages of notes as instructions for their pets, they interrogate you in the initial phone call about where you find your people, etc.  Choose NOT to take them on as clients before they become a problem.

Solution B: When you do make a mistake and take on one of these challenging clients be willing to let them go as soon as possible. 95% of stress often comes from 5% of those difficult and ultra-challenging clients--let go of the clients who are causing you difficulty and you may find you have only 5% stress!

Challenge #3: You often have clients calling for pet sitting or dog training services 1-3 days prior to their needing your help and you or your pet sitter or dog trainer have to scramble to meet with them at the last minute. This leads to you being grumpy and irritable.

Solution: Charge a $30 last minute fee. Say, "We'd love to help and it's a lot to scramble to get our staff member Suzie to meet with you so we do charge a $30 last minute fee when you have to meet one of our staff members in less than 72 hours. She's definitely available. Can I go ahead and get your information so I can set up a meeting?"

(PS--Some of the pet business owners that I've worked with have made $1,000 and more in a year just by charging a $30 last minute fee for last-minute clients. Though the intention in charging last minute fees is not to make a profit but rather to train clients to call earlier--the profit is nice!)

And for those of you pet sitters and dog walkers who would like to have more clients than you know what to do with, my "Get Pet Sitting Clients Now: Marketing That Works" webinar is coming soon.
