Dear Parents,
As the first day of school approaches, we are still working out many details that are important to you as you partner with us in distance learning. More information will be coming by way of the individual Zooms you have with your child’s teacher, teacher emails and the new teacher websites. I hope the information below will provide additional clarity.
All 7th and 8th graders will be using their iMac Air laptops. The 7th Grade laptops have finally shipped and Mrs. Flaherty and her crew are working to get them ready for distribution next Monday.
We have purchased new Chromebooks for every K to Grade 6 student. They have been prepared for student use and will be sent home on the pick-up day next Monday, unless you indicated in your survey that you’d rather have your child use your own equipment during distance learning. A basic instruction sheet will be sent home with each Chromebook. Like our textbooks, the Chromebooks are the property of the school and are on loan to your child for the school year. Teachers will be talking to the students about proper care. Students should not apply stickers to the case and must treat them gently. Please help us with this at home by reinforcing basic rules such as not eating or drinking while using the computer.
We want the virtual school day to mirror the regular school day as much as possible, which is why we need your child to have eaten, be dressed in the school uniform, and be logged into the teacher’s Zoom meeting by 8:10 AM each morning. Admitting each student from the waiting room can go quickly, preserving valuable instruction time, if students arrive on time.
Please do what you can to create a learning environment free of distractions. I know that this can be difficult but teachers and the other students can hear (and sometimes see) pets barking, background TV noise, and conversation from other family members during Zoom sessions. The upper grade teachers would be so grateful if you could keep cell phones and other tempting devices out of the student’s workspace. If you have two children working in the same room, ear buds or headphones worn by one child will mitigate the echo and reverberation that can happen. Some children may benefit by wearing noise cancelling ear phones.
Our teachers and their assistants have worked hard to provide materials and procedures to help each student stay organized at home. We asked that you supervise the unpacking of your child’s box and follow directions provided by the teacher. If you allow excited students to rummage through their box, the carefully thought out organization could be lost and students won’t have the necessary materials at hand when needed.
I know we all want our kids back at school where they belong. I have vivid memories of the day we joyfully welcomed our students back to a beautifully renovated campus after the fire. I like to visualize the carefree day in the future when St. Rose students will once again come to school free of all the worries and regimentation that are part of this pandemic.
Please join me in prayer that Sonoma County’s COVID caseload will decrease and that a safe vaccine will be available soon.
Kathy Ryan
Principal

Please look over the items below , there are some updates.

LET'S GET READY FOR SCHOOL!
-
SET UP YOUR STUDENTS' WORK SPACE: Create a designated work space; a chair, desk or table top, in a quiet location. A sturdy space for the lap top, a space to write, color, complete worksheets, take notes, etc. No working from the bed or floor. Please keep cell phones put away during the school day. There should be no access to them while distance learning. Same rules apply as if on campus.
-
We have purchased a CHROME BOOK for every student. Those parents who opted out of the Chrome Book at this time, their student will have one when we return to school to use. All other students will receive a Chrome Book in their learning material box. The Chrome Books remain the property of St. Rose School and are to be used solely for distance learning. Do not download apps or use for other purposes. No stickers and no eating while working. Please take good care of them.
-
STUDENT SUPPLIES: 1stDaySchoolSupply Kits, that were purchased will be part of your pickup next week. Those families who purchased their own supplies, please be sure your student has everything they need before the first day of school. All supplies should be for school use only. Please refrain from using for other household projects or other children. Keep in mind, once students return to campus, they will need to bring all required school supplies with them.
-
1stDaySchoolSupply Kits: Please note, your teachers have opened the boxes and removed the classroom Kleenex, and maybe some other items that are considered classroom supply. They will send items to students when necessary.
-
PENCILS: A supply of pencils will be included with your child's pick up work. Teachers will re-supply as needed. Please be sure your child has a pencil sharpener handy at their work station. Please remind your child, students are only to use the supplies that are on the list.
-
UNIFORM ORDERS: Uniform orders that were purchased before July 1, will be with your pick up next week.
-
Learning Materials in the Bankers Box are not to be unpacked without parental supervision or following teacher directions. Text books will be sent home on the first pick up day, with those classes who use them regularly. The intent of the box is for students to store their books, next to their work space for easy accessibility. When it's time to return to campus, it will be easier to carry if all back.
-
STUDENT WORK PACKETS: Every student will have a work packet (large envelope) labeled with name and class ZOOM number. That packet is to be used to return class work on pick up days. Please do not return class work any other way. Your teacher has made 2 of these envelopes per child, so when you return one, the other goes home with new class work. Just like we suggest for the Wednesday envelope, please use packing tape or other strong tape along the edges of your envelopes. It will help to save the life of these envelopes so we can save a little dough $$ with replacement costs.
-
WEDNESDAY ENVELOPES: We will not be sending home our traditional Wednesday Envelope until students return to campus. If you do have something to send to the office, you may bring to school when you return your child's work packets. There will always be a cart out front with a 'drop off' and 'pick up' box for the office.
-
ATTENDANCE: Students are expected to be logged in by 8:10 AM, and on time for other classes throughout the day. IF your child is sick, and/or can't attend classes, please call the school ATTENDANCE LINE to report your child's absence. There is NO need to ask for HOMEWORK.
-
CONSIDER transitioning your children a few days prior to the first day of school. Set the alarm, get up earlier than they've been used to, have breakfast, get dressed, pack a lunch (just like at school, they eat for 20 minutes or so, then get some run around time outside, before getting back to class.) Everyone's routine is about the change, so let's get excited and ready for the new school year!
During this time, please check emails regularly.

LEARNING MATERIALS PICK-UP DAY
|
|
MONDAY, AUGUST 17th
- The times listed for pick up are only 1 hour windows.
-
You may only come thru the line during the designated time. Do not come after your class time ends.
- Due to the logistics of moving all the materials from the classes in and out for the assigned pick up times, families with multiple children will have to come at their class designated times. Whatever is not picked up will be available the next day.
- This is a 'drive-thru' pick up. Parents and students will not exit their cars.
- Your teacher will have student's learning materials set out on curb and will place inside your trunk that you will open from inside the car.
- The teacher would like to spend a moment or so seeing their students, so please bring them and have them sitting on the right passenger side so the window can come down and the teacher can engage with the student.
-
Once the class time ends, any student learning materials will be brought inside and will be available for pick up the next day. Please do not come to pick up after the designated time.
- Learning materials not picked up on Monday, will be available to pick up on TUESDAY from 12:00pm - 4:00pm ONLY. No teachers will be available to greet students.
PLEASE DO EVERYTHING YOU CAN TO PICK UP ON MONDAY. Yes, materials can be picked up on Tuesday, 12PM - 4PM ONLY. We'd really like to have as little as possible to pull outside on Tuesday!

YES! We really DO love our VOLUNTEERS!
Although volunteer activity is on hold, and we don't know what the future holds for this school year, the moment we can resume as normal, we want you to be ready!
For CURRENT registered school volunteers, this is a Safe Environment RENEWAL YEAR.
ALL registered volunteers must complete the NEW Safe Environment course online at CMGconnect.org.
LOG into: CMGconnect.org
You will need to know your USER NAME and PASSWORD.
PLEASE - DO NOT CREATE A NEW ACCOUNT!!
If you have forgotten your user name & password, follow the prompts to RESET. If this doesn't work out for some reason, again, DO NOT CREATE A NEW ACCOUNT!
Send Ms. KC an email to request a reset, and she (I) will reset for you.
k_paul@sonic.net
Course takes approximately 1 hour to complete. You will not be in compliance to volunteer until it is done. (NO, you do not need to re-do your background check).
All faculty and staff have also completed the course. We think this is one of the best and most informative SE courses the Diocese has provided to date. There is excellent parenting information in the training that we believe all parents will find beneficial.
NEW VOLUNTEERS - not yet a registered volunteer.
Click on links below for directions on what you need to do to get compliant.

2020-21 Annual Calendar
(Subject to change)
Be sure and check the school's Google calendar often. Link is below, and if you can, link it to your phone. Once things resume back to normal, the Google calendar is updated frequently throughout the school year and will list ALL school events, field trips, dates for Mass, etc., for easy reference.
The Annual Calendar is simply a listing of holidays & minimum days, which at this time we will follow.
