דזשאַש וואַלעצקי, דער ניו־יאָרק־געבוירענער קאָמפּאָזיטאָר, און דער דראַמאַטורג דזשיין לעוויסאָן שטעלן פֿאָר אַ נײַעם טעאַטראַלישן קאָנצערט, „פּליטים צוזאַמען“ – אַ קול־קורא צו סאָלידאַריטעט מיט אַלע און אַלץ וואָס שטייט אין סכּנה. מיט דינאַמישע, וואָגיקע לידער וועגן אימיגראַציע און פּליטה, קלימאַטן־בײַט, ראַסיזם, מאַסן־שיסערײַען, אַנטיסעמיטיזם און אַנדערע מכּות אין דער הײַנטיקער וועלט, מוטיקן זיי אונדז אַלעמען אָן: „לאָמיר שליסן אָרעמס און פֿריִערט גיין אין גאַס צוזאַמען, צוזאַמען קעגן בלוט און האַס“.
וואַלעצקי האָט אָנגעשריבן די לידער פֿאַר די יחידי־סגולה אין דער ייִדישער מוזיקאַלישער וועלט, אַרײַנגערעכנט: דניאל קאַהן, סוועטאַ קונדיש, סאַשאַ לוריא, פּאָלינאַ שעפּאַרד, מערלין שעפּאַרד, איליאַ שנייווײַס, דזשייק שולמאַן־מענט, בעט סילווער און דבֿורה שטראַוס.

New York-born composer Josh Waletzky and playwright Jeyn Levison’s new Yiddish theatrical concert “Pleytem tsuzamen / פּליטים צוזאַמען / Refugees Together” is a call for solidarity with those who are most threatened. Confronting our current reality, the songs present a dynamic fusion of traditional forms with the social, political, and personal challenges posed by the world today – and they embody the power of music to foster the courage we need to “link arms and take to the streets together against bloodshed and hatred.”
These songs are stunning and political – addressing immigration and refugeeism, climate collapse, racism, foster care, mass shootings, antisemitism, and “Make Our Race Great Again” ideologies.
Waletzky wrote these songs for this chosen group of master Yiddish singers and instrumentalists – the foremost contemporary performers on the global Yiddish scene, including Daniel Kahn (voice, accordion, guitar), Sveta Kundish (voice), Sasha Lurje (voice), Polina Shepherd (voice, piano), Josh Waletzky (voice), Merlin Shepherd (clarinet), Ilya Shneyveys (accordion, piano), Jake Shulman-Ment (violin), Beth Silver (cello), and Deborah Strauss (violin).
