School is out for the summer and naturally thoughts turn to animals and reptiles and how they fit in nature’s food chain! For answers to those thoughts and more about large and powerful predators, look no further than the series “Food Chain Kings” by Katherine Eason.

We have a Special Literary Saturday this month. This Saturday, June 15 (rescheduled from May) at 10:30 am, Comfort Public Library will be presenting Project Bedrock's Executive Director, Elizabeth McGreevy. She is the author of Wanted! Mountain Cedars, Dead and Alive! Come hear her talk about her crusade to save these valuable native plants--they're NOT a nuisance!!

This month's "Comfort Zone" Book Club selection is Helen Simonson's newest book, The Hazelbourne Ladies Motorcycle and Flying Club. In one of our earliest club meetings, we read, and loved, Ms. Simonson's book, Major Pettigrew's Last Stand. So come join us on Saturday, June 29 at 9:00 am to see if we like The Hazelbourne Ladies as much as we liked Major Pettigrew!!

Whip-smart and utterly transportive, The Hazelbourne Ladies Motorcycle and Flying Club is historical fiction of the highest order: an unforgettable coming-of-age story, a tender romance, and a portrait of a nation on the brink of change.

Comfort Public Library's Summer Reading Program begins in July!! Look for more details as summer approaches.

KIM'S CORNER

June is here, and I am excited about upcoming library activities. Mary Anne is getting ready for the Summer Reading program that starts in July, Tracy is getting new books in and waiting for the new Interlibrary Lending program to be implemented, John is helping with some library maintenance issues, and Jasmine will be back ready for her new position at the library.

Elizabeth McGreevy is coming to the library on June 15 at 10:30 to discuss the importance of our Mountain Cedars in the Hill Country. I have read her book and am excited to hear her presentation. Our ESL (English as a Second Language) program has started and is going strong, and a shout-out to the wonderful volunteers working with these students.

I hope everyone will SAVE THE DATE for the TASTE OF COMFORT, which will be held on September 28, 2024, at the Ironwood Barn at the Von Erich Ranch in Boerne, Texas.

Thought for the day:

Why is the anti-gravity book impossible to put down?
