On Saturday, August 17, CPL's "Literary Saturday" features the "Comfort Zone" Book Club followed by Local Author Joel Maldonado!!

U.S. Border Patrol retiree and Tivy High School graduate Joel Maldonado’s book, “The Binding Oath: A Border Patrol Journey and the Mayorkas Effect,” provides the reader with a memoir of his 28 years as a protector of the United States border and its citizens.

It also includes a riveting condemnation of the current administration’s confusing border policy and the role Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas has played in demoralizing the historic agency and its dedicated agents.

This month's "Comfort Zone" Book Club selection is Everyone in my Family has Killed Someone, a humorous and clever mystery novel by Benjamin Stevenson, featuring a family reunion at a ski resort where everyone has a dark secret. Find out who killed whom and why in this witty twist on classic whodunits. Our meeting this month will again be immediately prior to our Literary Saturday guest, retired border patrol agent Joel Maldonado.

KIM'S CORNER

As summer ends and everyone prepares for school, I am excited by the familiar smell of school supplies and crayons in the stores. It brings back memories and fills me with anticipation for the future. But we still have much of the summer left, so I wanted to remind you about the Library's Summer Reading Program, which takes place every Thursday. There are just three more sessions left. The theme for this program is "Adventures Begin at Your Library."

For parents and grandparents with school-age children, I encourage you to bring them to the Library. We offer personal visits on Wednesdays and Fridays from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm in August. During these visits, we are here to assist you in updating your library card or obtaining one if you don't have it. We will also provide a tour of the Library, show you how to use the Libby app for eBooks, audiobooks, and magazines, and introduce you to new apps that will be available soon. We would love to show you where computer programs and resources can be found that can be useful during the upcoming school year.

So come to your Library, take a tour, sit a spell, and enjoy an adventure in a new book, resource, or at the Summer Reading Program!
