Save the Bell

You are probably aware by now that we found the steeple bell from the previous St. John in the far corner of the basement.

For the 100th Anniversary of our church building we would like to celebrate with the refurbishing of that bell and placing it outside the church (in a place to be determined) to ring on special occasions such as weddings, funerals and special events.

Buildings and Grounds is taking on this project with some planning, sweat equity, getting estimates for the project and pure determination. Bless their hearts. Thank them if you see them. Gaylen Hicok is chair of that board and I am sure he would welcome help if you have experience in cement, sand blasting, cleaning metal or anything else relevant.

To pay for this bell with no church funds, we are looking to only use donations or purchases of some special items. As part of that plan, we will have a goal of “100”-$20 interactions in the following 3 ways to raise $2000:

1.   Direct $20 donation to the fund

2.  " Adopt a Robe"-Donate $20 to turn an old choir robe into a paint smock for the After School Program. The goal is around 40 of them. We have the old robes, in better material than what we could purchase, for this price. The sewing or altering would be volunteer but there will be elastic, snaps, etc. depending on the style we choose.

3.   Purchase an item made from the old choir robes such as bags, computer sleeves, etc. the ideas are endless and Janet Petefish will work with you to personalize that item. Your child’s drawing can be digitized and printed onto part of the bag (or I can put it on a tumbler for that same $20). Photos can be done on fabric, but will not be as clear as art. I will also have a variety of graphics that can be added to the bags.  You can add your own text, names or an inspirational quote. Think ahead for Christmas or special occasions.

The best part is, every interaction will enter you into a drawing to be the first to RING THE BELL. You can contact Janet Petefish petefishj@mchsi.com for more information and tables will be set up on some Sundays to help choose an item and take donations.

You are invited to be a part of a card shower for Kay Slindee's 80th Birthday.

Please send a card with a memory, perhaps an old photo and your well wishes to:
