Library Update: BPL will be closed on Friday, March 29 for Good Friday.

Library Director's Greeting

Hello, Bloomfield! 2024 ushered in a new phase of our buildings project. With permits in hand, we started to knock down Prosser Library on January 3, and each day we are seeing pieces of the new library being built.

On January 24, we celebrated the forward momentum with an official groundbreaking ceremony. Thank you to all the people who joined us to commemorate the moment. We are currently working on finalizing plans for a renovated McMahon Wintonbury Library.

On March 12, we held an Open House at BPL Atrium to share our beautiful temporary space, highlight a variety of library services – including our wide array of free technology for public use, and share the current plans for McMahon Wintonbury Library with our community. Again, thank you to everyone who attended the Open House.

We are very invested in maintaining high levels of service during this time of transition and invite community input to help guide decision-making as the buildings project continues to move forward. Please feel free to reach out to the library directly or to share feedback with us using the BPL Feedback Form.

To conclude, DRUM ROLL PLEASE, we recently completed our 2022-2023 Annual Report. We are very proud of the work BPL does on behalf of our deserving residents, and look forward to continued excellence and innovation moving forward. We’re still here for you!

Early Voting Information

With Connecticut’s presidential primary scheduled for April 2, eligible voters will have their first opportunity to vote early before that date. Early voting starts Tuesday, March 26, and continues on the 27th, 28th and 30th. This is an excellent opportunity not only to participate in the Democratic process but to be among Connecticut’s first residents to utilize early voting ahead of this fall’s Presidential elections. To find your local early voting location and more information, visit the Early Voting webpage of the CT Office of the Secretary of the State or call 860-509-6200.

La Malibran presented by Jeffrey Engel

Thursday, March 28 at 1PM

During the early 19th century, La Malibran (1808-1836), a sensational singer and actress, had similar success to today's superstars and divas. Her career was extremely brief, and for years after her sudden death, she became a cult figure. Her life and operatic exploits were exaggerated, with some claiming she was responsible for miracles that should elevate her to sainthood. Jeffrey Engel will discuss her life and play musical excerpts from her most celebrated operatic roles. For Adults.
