Bloomfield's Anika Noni Rose Speaks at American Library Association's Annual Conference | |
|
More than 13,500 attendees gathered in San Diego, CA, for the ALA Annual Conference held from June 28 to July 2. Bloomfield's own Anika Noni Rose closed the conference with a discussion of her debut children's book, and the importance of libraries. Rose told the crowd of librarians she still remembers the smell of Bloomfield Public Library’s Prosser Library from her youth.
“I remember when you had to look up a book not by using a computer but by getting a paper cut,” Rose joked. “Being at the library was like being at an amusement park. You could get everything at the library, and there was no time limit. You could be there for hours.”
Check with BPL in the fall to borrow Anika's first book, Tiana’s Perfect Plan, which will be published in late October. This picture book teaches children the importance of self-forgiveness, featuring Anika's character from Disney's The Princess and the Frog.
