BPL Loves Bloomfield's Littlest Learners

Public libraries play an important role in early literacy, school readiness, and building a love of learning. BPL knows that early literacy development has a strong correlation with children’s future academic achievement and we love working with the birth to 5 crowd to create kindergarten-ready learners and book lovers. Our youth librarians visit several daycares monthly to bring early literacy programs to our youngest community members. If you are at New Creation Academy, Bright Horizons, Bloomfield Preschool and Childcare Center, The First Academy, or Creative Hearts Learning Academy, we'll see you soon!

Have you been to a storytime program yet? Our weekly storytime series is getting a revamp and will be relaunched as “ABC Time” (Atrium Book & Craft) with the first ABC Time scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 13 at 10:30 AM. ABC Time will take place at the Atrium, 1300 Hall Boulevard, on the 2nd through 4th Wednesdays of every month. Staff will share a book and a thematic craft for our young visitors. We would love to see you!

On the first Wednesday of every month, there will be a special featured program at the Bloomfield Human Services Building, 330 Park Avenue. See our Event Calendar for more details and join us when you can!

Tuesday, December 12 at 6:30PM

Join us for a virtual demonstration of some different craft ideas that can be given as gifts or kept for yourself! We will provide supplies for a candy cane mouse that can be used as a holiday decoration. Kits will be available for pickup at the Atrium on December 5 (while supplies last). We will also show you how to decorate a flower pot that you can fill with candy, make a trivet out of clothespins, and create a snowman decoration out of items easily found at discount stores. Talewise Presents: Science Heroes Break the Ice at 330 Park Ave

Saturday, December 16 at 1PM

Science and stories collide in this interactive S.T.E.M. program featuring the "coolest" thing in science — DRY ICE! The audience helps the performer act out the tale as we use the events in the story to discover and explore dry ice and the changing states of matter. Volunteers help conduct each experiment as the whole audience gets involved in changing variables and making predictions! Best for ages 5-12, but fun for the whole family!
