Team Anewalt’s helped downtown Hamburg come alive this summer with the creation of a whole new look for the Kuhn Funeral Home & Crematory on South 4th Street.
To continue the ongoing theme of water features found at the other Kuhn locations, President Mike Kuhn planned to incorporate the same peaceful and soothing feel at the parking lot entry of the Hamburg site.
And when Mike decided to dream big for the new outdoor area, he looked to Anewalt’s.
“I have a long-term friendship with Eddie and Lori,” he said. “I thought of them first for this project because I knew it would be done perfectly.”
With the cooperation of the Borough of Hamburg, the plan fell into place to create not one, but two, water features highlighting new brick walls, and incorporate flowers, plants, and trees into the once bare macadam parking area. And to beautify the whole project at night, uplighting was designed to illuminate the waterfalls and plantings.
The massive undertaking began in July and finished right on time for thousands of visitors heading into the borough to enjoy the famous Taste of Hamburg-er Festival on September 2nd and to appreciate the Kuhn Funeral Home highlight on South 4th Street.
600 gallons of circulating water keep the water features flowing, enhanced by the addition of crape myrtle trees, and columnar Common Hornbeam trees dot the parking area which Team Anewalt’s broke through and excavated to create an area for planting.
“Always on time, always professional, always on schedule. Everything they do is important to them. It’s clear that Anewalt’s culture is second to none,” said Mike Kuhn about his experience with the team.
The multi-faceted value of the Kuhn Funeral Home project was about more than just creating a new look at the front of the building to both Eddie and Lori Anewalt and Mike Kuhn.
“To me, what was exciting about that project was the ability to add beauty through the construction of mortar brick walls, to add serenity through the unique twin water features, and by softening the vacant lot with appropriate trees, shrubs and perennials,” Eddie said.
Lori adds, “the trees and softscape add so much, plus the sound of water. My hat is tipped to Mike Kuhn for doing this.”
What was both an impressive and unusual project for Team Anewalt’s will remain for years to offer comfort to anyone coming to Kuhn Funeral Home & Crematory at a difficult time and to give a moment of tranquility to pedestrians and commuters along the busy street.
And according to Mike Kuhn, the project has been appreciated in the borough.
“We’ve had lots and lots of positive comments from the Hamburg community. It enhances the whole look of South 4th Street and makes everything more beautiful, more green, and more impactful,” he said. “It can hopefully inspire imagination and creativity in the nearby locations.”
