Colonial High School
CHS Community Member
This week we have a pair of special student events. On Tuesday, April 16th we will administer the ACT to all of our junior students. Timely arrival to school is critical and laptops need to be fully charged. Then on Thursday, April 18th we will have our annual Undecided/Career Fair Day in the media center during 4th through 6th periods.

With only six weeks now remaining in the 2023-2024 school year, I always challenge our Grenadiers to be mindful of drifting from their positive behaviors and best efforts. However, there are very strong signs that our students are indeed remaining on task. This is important for many reasons, but a key one is that their teachers will continue to introduce new content into the last school week in addition to reviewing for year-end exams. Please make time each week to log into Skyward to check on your child's progress. Quarter 3 progress reports will be published to Skyward during the week of April 22.

Have a wonderful week!

Grenadier Spotlight!
Victoria Justiniano, State Star Chapter Degree Finalist
Press release highlighting our own Victoria Justiniano as one of the Florida FFA State Star Chapter Degree finalists!

Victoria was one of only four students selected in this category from across the State and this is one of the most prestigious individual honors a student may receive. From our research, this is only the third time in Colonial High School history that a student has been selected as a finalist for this award program.

Please join us in congratulating Victoria and sending her best wishes as she competes with her in-person interview this Wednesday.
Speech and Debate
Colonial hosts major debate competition!
Our Grenadier Speech and Debate team hosted and competed in the inaugural Southeastern Ronald Reagan Great Communicator Debates. It was already an honor to be hand picked to host this prestigious event and it was an even bigger honor that our very own Shekinah Henriette advanced to quarter finals, placing 5th in the region. It was also a privilege to have our school board member, Maria Salamanca, participate and judge the final round.

Thank you to everyone who made this possible! We've officially been asked to host again next year and Colonial Speech and Debate is the newest ambassador to the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library.

FFA's Land Judging Team - One of Florida's Best!
Grenadiers compete in the 2024 Statewide Land Evaluation Career Development Event.
The Florida FFA State Land Evaluation Career Development Event (CDE) was held on Friday, April 5, in Manatee County, Florida. Over 40 middle and high school teams from across the state competed for the opportunity to be named state champions.

A land judging team is comprised of 4 members and each of them have to properly evaluate 4 soil profiles on a tract of land. The students evaluate the soil profiles to determine the soil texture, organic matter, drainage capability, soil type, calculate the amount of surface soil lost from erosion, calculate the slope, determine several other mechanical and vegetative practices as well as determine the soil ph and amendments needed for the soil. Then a “best land use” determination must be made by each team member. On one of the soil pits, the students are to determine the potential for a possible homesite and any drawbacks or issues that could deter this use, such as flooding potential, landscape issues, water runoff, erosion issues, etc.
Colonial's FFA team won the 5th place in state honor!
By winning a top 5 state honor, our team will now be recognized on stage at the Florida FFA State Convention and Expo this June.
Flight Academy at Work
Grenadiers undertake glider construction in order to test their understanding of aerodynamics.
RPO students from 1st, 2nd, and 7th periods have been studying the Principals of Aerodynamics and learning about the primary and secondary control surfaces of airplanes. To put their theoretical knowledge to the test, they are building gliders and will launch them on Monday to test how well they can apply what they have learned.
