Colonial High School
CHS Community Member
On Thursday, May 9th we will be on a modified bell schedule for testing of Algebra 1 and Geometry EOC’s. Please see the calendar below and for anyone testing, please make sure to bring your charged computer and power cord on test day!

Please do not forget about our End of Year Skate! starting at 8:00pm this Friday at Astro Skate (666 S. Goldenrod - Flyer below). We were able to receive a very reasonable $12.00 price for our Grenadiers and with the school year fast winding down, this will be a fun evening out for both Colonial students and families.
To recognize and thank teachers for their hard work, school districts across the USA are currently celebrating Teacher Appreciation Week '24. This week is traditionally the first full week in May. We are so fortunate to have such an incredible group of educators serving here at Colonial. The 2023-2024 school year began for our teachers on Wednesday, August 2, 2023 and since that day, I have watched them all actually accelerate their efforts the closer we get to the end of the school year. Unlike many professions, in education the pace quickens as the weeks pass building up to the final assessments students have been taking since May began. In fact, if all you did was scroll down this Colonial Connection issue, take note of varied activities our Grenadiers have been engaged in lately which usually have one or more of our teachers, coaches, counselors, or other staff members behind it.

If you are a CHS student or the parent of student, please try to find a moment this week to show your appreciation to that special teacher or staff member that, in your opinion, has made a difference this year. None of our Colonial faculty expect anything this week, but a heartfelt note or email, even a face-to-face thank you, is golden. Thank you.

It's Great To Be A Grenadier!

Health Science attended the Future Aspiring Medical Conference at the Hyatt Regency last week. We are appreciative of this opportunity and the students had a blast!
Students Mia Abreu-future OB-GYN and Annielise Ramlochan-Future Pediatric Trauma Surgeon, grouped with Freedom High School Biomedical students, while rotating to pathology working with real organs, practiced simulation of a laparoscopic device used for surgical procedures, practiced suturing human tissue externally and internally, spoke with physicians from across the globe about the process and premed track for college, and also were able to see presentations of how to remove a gallbladder with calcifications and an open view of a ruptured appendix.
Classroom Spotlight
Airport Design and Modeling:
Ms. Arnoux’s 1st, 2nd, and 7th periods have been learning about airports markings, signage, and lighting as well as how and why runways are labeled the way they are and located in specific directions. To illustrate their knowledge, they have selected an airport of their choosing and are building a replica of their airport with all the proper lighting, markings, and signage. Sometimes hands-on assessments are more fun than traditional paper pencils assessments!

~ Olivia Rodrigo, singer-songwriter

Thoreau On Time Management
Success usually comes to those who are too busy to be looking for it.
~ Henry David Thoreau, philosopher

Sassoon On Effort
The only place where success comes before work is in the dictionary.
~ Vidal Sassoon, hairstylist

JFK On Teachers
We the people of America have entrusted into your hands the future leaders of this nation, the most powerful nation on Earth - and the way in which you fulfill this trust, in the guidance and direction you give to America's youth, will have a more profound effect on our national future than perhaps any decision made in Congress.
~ John F. Kennedy, 35th US president

Malala Yousafzai On Education
Let us remember: One book, one pen, one child, and one teacher can change the world.
~ Malala Yousafzai, youngest Nobel Prize laureate in history at age 17
