CDN Update

Autumn is already shaping up to be particularly busy for CDN and the sector, with a great selection of professional learning activities and other events to choose from and to get involved in.

We are proud to be supporting a national Digital Ambition Roadshow to gather views on college digital priorities, as part of the development of a sector-wide Digital Ambition for 2030. Please attend a workshop near you if you can.

A major event will be taking place on 6 November at City of Glasgow College to explore how we may enhance student experiences to enable improved attainment. I am delighted that Richard Lochhead MSP and Liam McCabe, NUS Scotland President, will be among a range of fantastic speakers at this important event.

And finally, don’t forget to book your place to attend the CDN College Awards , spaces are going fast.

I very much hope to meet you at one or more of our events . Please, as ever, don’t hesitate to contact me if you wish to discuss any aspect of our work: jim.metcalfe@cdn.ac.uk

Digital Ambition Roadshows

CDN is part of a group of college representatives working to develop a sector-wide Digital Ambition for 2030. Chaired by Dr Ken Thomson OBE, Principal of Forth Valley College, a Short Life Working Group has developed a series of workshops to gather views on college digital priorities. The workshops are open to participants from all colleges, to staff in any role plus student association members.

Enhancing the Student Experience: Enabling Attainment

On 6 November , a national conference will be held at City of Glasgow College to provide inspiration and professional discussion to facilitate enhanced student experiences. We are delighted that the Minister for Further Education, Higher Education and Science, Richard Lochhead MSP, will provide a keynote address at this event. We are also delighted that National Union of Students President, Liam McCabe, will join us to explore student needs and expectations.

Marketing Conference Success

CDN’s Marketing and Communications Network hosted a conference in September. This hugely popular event was designed around the development needs of marketing and communications professionals working in the sector. A day of inspiration and learning concluded with an Expert Panel and discussion, exploring the college of the future, led by Audrey Cumberford, Principal of Edinburgh College, and member of the Commission of the College of the Future, John Robertson, Director of Corporate Affairs at SDS and Will McLeish, Head of Communications and Public Affairs at Colleges Scotland.

Students and Gambling: Prevention and Support

Students and Gambling: Education, Prevention and Support, is a free workshop taking place on 28 October. It will inform attendees about the impact gambling can have on students’ health and wellbeing. The workshop is facilitated by Warren Hughes (Gambling Education Hub, Fast Forward). Fast Forward is a charity that aims to make sure every young person has access to gambling education and prevention opportunities. Places are limited so early booking is advised.
