Dror High School Girls Participate in Coexistence Leadership Program in Jerusalem
It couldn’t be happening at a better time. Girls from six middle and high schools in East and West Jerusalem -- Jewish and Arab, religious and secular -- created a huge human mandala in Safra Square on May 9 th as the culminating event of the Coexistence Leadership Project for 2018.

The feminist leadership program for Jewish and Arab girls brings girls from the six schools together throughout the year for mutual acquaintance and action for the future of Jerusalem and Israeli society.

The program was born out of a strong need to do something to change the racist and violent climate and speech students are exposed to and at times take part in, regarding the Palestinian- Israeli conflict.
Girls from SAE's Dror High School joined with girls from five other East and West Jerusalem schools to create a human mandala -- a spiritual and ritual symbol in Hinduism and Buddhism, representing the universe - in Safra Square.
Roni Hazon Weiss, principal of Dror High School, a national- religious school run by the Society for Advancement of Education, is a founder of the program. Learn more.

50 Jafra Leadership Program Students from Northern Israel Visit Jerusalem and the Negev
Fifty members of the Jafra Leadership Program from communities in Northern Israel went to an educational and experiential seminar in Jerusalem and visited the Negev in early May.

The trip was a culminating experience in the year-long Jafra Leadership Program whose main goal is to promote leadership and excellence among Arab youth.

The high school graduates in the Program are exposed to diverse content, lectures and workshops, acquiring tools and skills and familiarity with Israeli society, and taking part in leading community and social initiatives to develop leadership skills.
A trip to Jerusalem and was part of a culminating experience for 50 Arab high school graduates from Northern Israel participating the in the year-long "gap" year Jafra Leadership Program.
The Program, began in the 2016-2017 academic year, is a partnership between the Society for Advancement of Education, Jerusalem, the Al-Amer Organization and the municipalities of Abu Senan, Turan and Sakhnin. There is high demand for the program and SAE and Al-Amer are hoping to expand to an additional two towns during the 2018-2019 school year. Find out more.
"SAE is doing holy work by raising up students above the norm" -- AFK ED Gary Bretton-Granatoor
Dear Friends,

I had the honor recently of visiting the schools, residence halls and programs of the Society for the Advancement of Education. The work being done each day elevates the students – lifts them up and allows them to feel special – through excellence in study and excellence in character.

HaAguda L’Kidum HaChinuch, the Society for Advancement of Education, is doing holy work by raising up students above the norm -- teaching students that they don’t have to settle for mediocrity, but that you and your life can be elevated through excellence in learning and being. This is holy work.

We should all be proud to be partners in this sacred work though our support. It is truly Avodat Kodesh. Read Gary's full message here.

UN Awards Grants to SAE's Children's Learning Centers
One of the students at the the Learning Center for Children of Asylum Seekers and Economic Migrants enjoys the animals at the Jerusalem Nature Museum during a recent visit.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) recently awarded SAE a grant to help support the Society's Learning Centers in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.

The need is acute, as over 38,000 African migrants – refugees, asylum seekers and economic migrants – live in Israel, the vast majority of them, from Sudan and Eritrea. It is common for these families to live in the most basic survival conditions, forcing parents to work long hours with no framework for their children.

The goal of the Learning Centers is to give the children a secure, protected, positive environment after school hours, which will support the necessary learning processes for their age group, assist in closing the gaps, and assess learning and emotional difficulties as needed . Learn more .
