FAQs

Should I sleep in my AFO?
No, there are night-time specific AFOs. Most day time AFOs are just worn when walking, standing, or weight bearing.

How often should I be cleaning my orthotic device? And with what?
Cleaning the device daily is a great habit to start! Isopropyl Alcohol (70%) works great and dries quickly. You can also use any soap that is safe on your body, but make sure the brace is completely dry before putting it back on.

Can I customize my device?
We have a bunch of different transfer patterns and designs for you to customize your orthotic or prosthetic devices. There are also sticker decals you can order made specifically for bracing such as the cranial remolding helmets.

Checking in with...PAUL!

Why did you chose the orthotics and prosthetics profession? I was in the military (Army), as a medic and field nurse, I met many patients that had a prosthetic or brace in my treatment rounds. I liked engineering and design, so with my medical training it was a neat transition to mix both together while helping patients increase function.
Over the years helping patients has been great motivation for getting up and going to work. Even on a day I might not be feeling great, my patients motivate me, particularly when the prosthetic or bracing device that I have designed and we have made for them, let's them get up and walk again!

VORUM, Our Newest Scanning Technology!

Earlier this year, our practitioners participated in a week long training to familiarize themselves with the VORUM Scanning technology. We've learned a ton and are excited to be using this scanner with our patients! Here's a little bit about how this new technology works.

3D Scanning with the Vorum Spectra scanner is a faster, more accurate, and less messy process. No plaster or fiberglass is required.

-The process begins with the patient changing into a body sock or stockinette that the practitioner can draw marks on for reference on the 3D computer program for modifying.

-The patient will be advised to hold in a specific position.

-A blue square will be emitted onto the patient. The blue square is radiation free and safe. Thousands of pictures are being taken to be put together as a 3D shape onto the computer.

-The practitioner will walk around with the handheld scanner making sure all the important areas are captured.

-After scanning, the 3D model will be available in real time on the computer screen.

-The practitioner will clean up any artifacts that causes the 3D scan to be messy or not representative of the patient.

-Once the 3D model represents the patient in a nice clean model, the practitioner will save the shape and the shape will then be sent to the 3D computer program to be modified further to include the proper corrections necessary for the patient.

-The final modification is then sent to a carver that will carve out the model out of hard foam to use for fabricating the device.
