The energy changes; my body feels it. I open the back of the laptop, and a loose plastic bit falls out, and the fan works again. My laptop is back; Frontier has installed the fiber optic internet after four attempts in the last two months. The catalytic converter is installed in a day and is 1/2 of what I budgeted. I run into old friends I haven't seen for three years but have been thinking of. My partner's dad is recovering from the stroke and using a walker. Mom is doing much better and tells us to wait until it warms up a bit before coming to Michigan. I think about the movie Problemista and how life's challenges remake us. We cannot see the portrait of our lives, like a puzzle we gather its pieces day by day. Pieces of frustration, of joy, of anger, and of love. A living puzzle, in time, in 3D. Emotion and physical, this is a being. | |

Women’s History
Women We Should Know
Pauline Elizabeth Hopkins (1859 – August 13, 1930) was an American novelist, journalist, playwright, historian, and editor. She is considered a pioneer in her use of the romantic novel to explore social and racial themes, as demonstrated in her first major novel Contending Forces: A Romance Illustrative of Negro Life North and South. In addition, Hopkins is known for her significant contributions as editor for the Colored American Magazine, which was recognized as being among the first periodicals specifically celebrating African-American culture through short stories, essays and serial novels. She is also known to have had connections to other influential African Americans of the time, such as Booker T. Washington and William Wells Brown.
