The conference is designed to engage, educate, empower, and catalyze citizens, organizations, and communities by learning about new federal, state, and regional legislation and policies that draw roadmaps to net zero for Cape Cod, the Islands ….and beyond!

We are at a critical intersection in our history where the increasing urgency of the climate crisis has converged with the emergence of exciting new energy policies and programs at federal, state and regional levels.

NZ-21 focuses on Massachusetts’ new state climate law — “An Act Creating a Next Generation Roadmap for Massachusetts Climate Policy” — which represents the most significant update to climate policy in the Commonwealth since the landmark Global Warming Solutions Act of 2008.

NZ-21’s day-long agenda offers a rich program showcasing federal, state and regional climate experts including:

  • Ed Markey, United States Senator for Massachusetts
  • Katie Theoharides, Secretary, Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy & Environmental Affairs
  • Kristy Senatori, Executive Director, Cape Cod Commission
  • Maggie Downey, Compact Administrator, Cape Light Compact
  • …and many others!

A lightning round panel discussion with Cape & Islands Delegation members senators Julian Cyr and Su Moran and representatives Kipp Diggs, Dylan Fernandes, Sarah Peake, David Vieira, and Tim Whelan will shine light on the new law’s ramifications for town's, organizations and individuals concerned with the climate crisis. Andy Gottlieb, Association to Preserve Cape Cod Executive Director will moderate this session.

Other session panelists include professionals from Cape Light Compact, Martha’s Vineyard and Cape Cod Regional Transit Authorities, Vineyard Wind and Mayflower Wind, Littoral Power Systems, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, Cape & Vineyard Electric Cooperative, The Compact of Cape Cod Conservation Trusts, and the Cape Cod Climate Change Collaborative.

Major event sponsors include Presenting sponsor Cape Light Compact, Diamond sponsor Cape Cod 5, and Platinum sponsors Cape Air, Solect Energy, and Vineyard Wind.

The conference will be emceed by Climate Change Collaborative founder and board president Richard Delaney, who is also outgoing president and chief executive officer of the Center for Coastal Studies.

Join the climate conversation with citizens, business leaders, policy makers, elected officials, environmentalists, clean energy providers, nonprofits, and youth and faith community activists from around the region and beyond as we explore innovative policies and tools that will accelerate our region’s journey to a clean and equitable energy future.
