Historical Tidbit:
 Elizabeth Poole

Frequently, the foundation of America is attributed to Founding Fathers, or Fore-Fathers, It must not be forgotten the great things women did.

Well before the American Revolution, when Massachusetts was yet the Massachusetts Bay Colony, a woman named Elizabeth Poole traveled to the colony with her brother, William, in 1633.

Shortly after her arrival, Elizabeth is attributed with making the first land purchase by a woman on the American continent in 1637. This original purchase would sprout into a settlement and eventually into the incorporated towns of Taunton and Raynham in 1639.

Elizabeth actively shaped the beginnings of Raynham.
Respectfully submitted, Ian Marson

Cassandra Saniuk teaches Baton at RAC

For the first time ever, at the Raynham Athletics Center, coach and certified NBTA judge Cassandra Saniuk will be teaching a baton twirling camp.
Cassandra has a mound of experience when it comes to baton twirling. Not only is she a coach and certified judge for the NBTA but she has 14 years of experience under her belt. She has competed in quite a few competitions and even won the 2018 Advanced National Flag Twirling Championships at Notre Dame University. " I am very excited to get this summer program up and running with the RAC this summer to help spread the word and knowledge about baton twirling! Not many people know what it is, or the opportunities that it holds. Becoming a twirler has opened so many doors for myself, allowed me to make friends all over the country, and travel to many new places for competitions". Said Cassandra.

A great way for kids to make friends and also work on the skills that baton twirling teaches like hand-eye coordination, leadership, flexibility, patience, and determination, ages 6 and older are invited to join and they do not have to be a member of the RAC to participate.

Congratulations to all of our graduates.
Now you head out to make your way. Yahoo!

My youngest, working on his career for a solid year now after graduation, got me talking about my own 21 year old career misadventures .. we both shook our heads in disbelief at what we didn't know that first year after graduation.

Since so much of it was just figuring life out, the Longest John's "Hoist Up the Thing" comes to mind.

Fresh out of college, with grades straight from Hell
I browsed for a trade at which I could excel
An ad for a ship in need of some manning
Men, sails, and purpose, but lacking a captain

What luck, says I, to find such good fortune!
A few white lies later, I ran down the pier
Bought me a coat and a cutlass or two
Jumped on the deck, and I yelled at the crew:

{Chorus}
Hoist up the thing! Batten down the whatsit!
What's that thing spinning? Somebody should stop it!
Turn hard to port! (That's not port)
Now I've got it! Trust me, I'm in control!"
(c: David Robinson, Andrew Robert Yates, Jonathan Michael Peter Darley, Robert James Alexander Sattin 2020

We all have to figure out our own way. Very seldom is it without bumps and missteps.
We are never really in control. Best we can do is be true to ourselves and kind to others. Here's wishing you clear sailing!
