Applications to be Accepted for Rural Accessory Dwelling Units

On January 10, 2024, the Clatsop County Board of Commissioners voted to approve Ordinance 24-01 which includes proposed changes to Accessory Dwelling Unit regulations.


The proposed code changes would allow many residentially zoned properties in unincorporated Clatsop County to site one Accessory Dwelling Unit or ADU. To qualify, a property must meet several standards including having at least two acres of area.

Housing Amendments Public Information Session


Land Use Planning staff will host a hybrid meeting at 5 p.m., Tuesday, January 16, to provide information about several changes to the County’s zoning code to facilitate housing development. 


The meeting will be hosted in-person at the Judge Guy Boyington Building, 857 Commercial Street, Astoria, and via Zoom.

Staff Changes and New Faces

Clatsop County is pleased to welcome Jay Blake as the new Planning Manager. 


Jay, who started January 4, replaces long-time previous Planning Manager Julia Decker, who retired at the end of 2023. 


Jay brings more than 20 years of planning experience to this position, including two years as the Planning Director for the City of Warrenton.

Ian Sisson’s last day with Clatsop County is January 12


Ian, who has been with Clatsop County for over five and a half years, progressed from Planner to Senior Planner during his time with the County. We are excited for his new career opportunities and wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors.

Building Codes is Hiring!


Clatsop County is looking to hire an electrical inspector.


As Electrical Inspector, you will enforce the National Electrical Code the applicable state code through inspection of various types of buildings; communicate code requirements to the public, contractors and local officials; investigate cases of non-compliance and report appropriately.


This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent plus additional specialized training.


Applicants should have:

  • Driving privileges in the State of Oregon
  • State of Oregon "A" Level Electrical Inspector Certificate
  • State of Oregon One- and Two-Family Dwelling Electrical Inspector Certificate
  • State General Supervisor’s Electrician License
