About Andrew Plaisier

Andrew Plaisier is the First Place winner of the 2016 White Lake Chamber Music Festival Solo Competition. He is a recent graduate from Calvin College, finishing up majors in biology and cello performance. He has performed extensively during his time there, playing in two orchestras, the Gioioso String Quartet, the Phoenix Trio, a piano duo, and a worship team. He also has been very involved in leading Cello Cabaret each spring, a recital encompassing many genres of cello ensemble music. In March 2016 he performed the 1st movement of the Dvorak Cello Concerto with the Calvin Orchestra as winner of the Calvin Concerto Competition. In 2014, he also won the Concerto Competition and performed Tchaikovsky's Rococo Variations, and also toured Costa Rica performing Vivaldi's Concerto for Two Cellos with Joshua Ruiter. Last summer, he participated in the Texas Music Festival in Houston, Texas, and was featured on the TV show Great Day Houston in a duet arrangement of Eye of the Tiger. This summer he will be a member of L'Orchestre de la Francophonie in Montreal, and will begin graduate school at the University of Michigan under Anthony Elliott in the fall. In his free time, he enjoys spending time outside ice-skating, hiking and biking, going on road trips, and finding beauty in things all around him.
