The students have met with the club and created the sponsorship package, so you may be getting a sales call from them soon. We are adding more work days during the next few weeks so we have more time to work on the golf outing.
Three mentors are still needed for this year. Please consider helping these students on their business journey. Call Jeanne at 217-549-2564 if you are interested.
Correction - My apologies to Kim Lockhart of Sarah Bush Lincoln Heath Center. I wrote her name as Kim Uphoff by mistake last week. Both are wonderful Sarah Bush Lincoln Health System employees who have tremendously helped our class over the years.

Cyber Security -How to Protect Your Data
ClassE attended the Mattoon Chamber of Commerce's training Security: Risks & Considerations on Tuesday.
Mike Miller, President of TEAM ITS, LLC, Matt Cekander, CPA of Doehring, Winders & Co. LLP, and Clay Dean, CEO of First Mid Insurance Group discussed: recent breaches in security, how to protect your data, and minimizing your risk. It was a very informative day.
|
Logan Murphy, golf pro at the Charleston Country Club, discussed all of the planning that goes into running a golf outing. He asked the students for golfer projections, the costs for the scramble, games to play on the course and how the food and registration will run.
The Pro Shop is also Logan's own business, so he is discussed that a bit and opportunities in the field.

Tour of Washington Savings Bank
Thank you to Washington Savings Bank for their flexibility on this day after the Mattoon shooting. We had a class meeting before the tour.
Jerry McCoy discussed the role of a local bank and then the class split into groups and heard from many of the employees about the cashier and trust departments and other services they offer such as lock boxes.
Russ Spitz discussed what banks look for when loaning money to a small business. He answered a few questions, and he may continue this conversation later in the year with the class.

Creating the Sponsorship Package and How to Sell
This week the class: set the price, created the sponsorship package, approved the flyer, divided the prospective sales list between the students and began making calls to gain sponsors and players for the golf outing. Reggie Brown did a role play on how to make a sales call on the telephone. Megan Drummond and Alex Bratton did the heavy lifting by compiling different lists to call.
The student who brings in the most sponsorship and registration revenue gets to have "Casual Fridays" for the rest of the fall semester.
