Scott Smith, Charleston City Manager, spoke to the students about communicating and overseeing a $27 million dollar entity. The  students learned what services the city provides to the taxpayers as well as businesses. Scott also discussed his use of electronics and time management tools such as Outlook to be an efficient and effective leader.

The foundation of good time management is knowing the difference between urgent and important and being able to identify which activities help you achieve your life goals. The student have been asked to submit a time log for this weekend's activities. We have expanded this lesson because it is so important to a successful business.

We met with Courtney Hughes and Ryan Strange, owners of Plush Boutique in downtown Charleston.  Courtney loves to shop and they saw the need for a boutique in Charleston. Both quit their day jobs to make this work. Ryan created a wonderfully interesting space and does the books, while Courtney does the purchasing and sales.

They visited many boutiques in Nashville, 

Chicago and Effingham to learn about the business. They also mentioned that their suppliers provide them with a wealth of information that have steered them in the right direction.
