Distributing Supplemental Food For Adults, Children, & Especially Seniors, Who Lack An Adequate Supply

Volunteer Leadership

Food Pantries consist of individuals and groups who share the same general philosophy: helping people in need. The Clarksville Food Pantry consists of all volunteers who take a vested interest in those whom they are helping, often bringing different backgrounds, using their resources to serve our families in need and demonstrate leadership everyday.

Society often associates leaders with individuals that have grandiose titles, a large corner office, and make world-changing decisions. Thus, many people shy away from identifying themselves as a leader. However, we believe real leadership is seen most clearly in the small moments throughout the day, especially at the Clarksville Food Pantry. Leadership is about acting in a way that makes the life of another person better than before you arrived. The best part is you do this every day–sometimes not even knowing your impact.

These moments are often referred to as “Lollipop Moments”, a special moment where one individual positively shapes another person’s life, but may not realize his or her impact.

This month we'd like to recognize the lollipop moments you bring to the families the pantry serves! You'll find a bowl of lollipops at the pantry for your enjoyment!

And if you catch a client bringing you a lollipop moment, please RECOGNIZE it! Say some encouraging words and share a lollipop!

Myth or Fact

‘Light olive oil is more nutritious than regular olive oil.’ ❌ MYTH!

Let’s take a pit-stop and check the facts!

Olive oil is a monounsaturated fat made from pressing and extracting the oil from the olive fruit. Depending on the type of olive the taste can range from mild to spicy and the color can be pale yellow to dark green.

The term “light” does not refer to calories or fat content, in fact all olive oil has the same 120 calories per tablespoon and roughly 15 grams of healthy fat. “Light” in this case refers to aroma, taste and color. Light olive oil is more processed and has a higher smoke point than say an extra virgin olive oil, making it more suitable for baking when a more neutral flavor is desired. In any form olive oil is a great way to slip some healthy fats into your diet.
