Hello,

Thank you to everyone who came to last Saturday's Legislative Coffee at the Greenfield Public Library. We appreciate Rep. Blais, Sen. Comerford, and Rep. Whipps spending so much time answering questions and discussing concerns. Keep scrolling for follow-up information. But first...

Civics Trivia Night is coming up in just 2 weeks!

Held at the Elks Club in Greenfield, doors open at 6:30pm, with the game slated to begin promptly at 7:00pm. Our famous free snack rounds and gift basket raffles will be back as well—we hope you'll be there too!

Please spread the word and invite every one you know. Tickets are $10 a person, with a limit of 8 people per team. People can come as a team, form a team of 1, or join another team and make new friends! New this year, tickets for students are only $5!

While you await your chance to play, we're looking for gift basket donations. Let us know if you can contribute—thank you!

Our Legislative Coffee welcomed a full and thoroughly engaged house!

If you weren't able to attend, the Greenfield Recorder features a complete recap of all the issues and discussion here.

We don't have all the info and specific bill numbers that were to be forwarded along, but we can tell you about:

H.4138 The Affordable Homes Act: The League supports this bill, as well as H.2747/S.1771 An Act Granting a Local Option for a Real Estate Transfer Fee to Fund Affordable Housing. You can read League testimony on this bill here.

Our legislators noted that the bill doesn't necessarily take the needs of rural communities into account, and they discussed an amendment to include a rural set aside where rural communities compete against other rural communities for funds, not against larger municipalities.

PILOT (Payment in lieu of taxes) programs were a hot issue. You can read more about bills related to PILOTs here.

To read more about which state bills the League is supporting or opposing, including bills dealing with climate, immigration, of course elections and voting, and more, along with any associated testimony, please visit this link.

Of particular note is H.4356An Act promoting housing opportunity and mobility through eviction sealing, the HOMES Act, now awaiting a vote in the Massachusetts House of Representatives. Please contact your state representative TODAY and ask them to urge leadership to bring this bill to the floor for a vote. League testimony in support of this bill can be read here.

We encourage you to contact your legislators if these or any issues are important to you. One of the biggest takeaways of our event is that the voices of constituents carry more influence than you know—speak up!

Stay tuned...
