What’s Open on Campus

This fall the college is enhancing in-person student support services, while continuing to offer services online. Please refer to the Reopening website for the most up-to-date information.

Parking Reminder

For Employees

Los Rios will be issuing parking permits for all faculty and staff starting with the Fall 2022 semester. An employee permit will be required to park in any staff parking spaces.

Permits can be picked up at the SCC Police Office during business hours, 8 a.m to 2 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Be sure to bring the necessary materials:

Please be sure to follow all other parking rules, such as only parking in handicapped spots if you have the appropriately issued placard and no parking in fire or loading zones, as these violations could result in a ticket.

For Students

Los Rios will not be issuing semester or daily parking permits for students for the Fall 2022 or Spring 2023 semesters. This means students will not be ticketed for a lack of a permit during the semester, as long they are parked in a student parking spot.

Eligible Students Can Buy Groceries with CalFresh

Let students know that they may be able to get help paying for groceries - more than 40% of college students qualify for CalFresh!

CalFresh benefits are issued on an EBT card that works like a debit card. It can be used at most grocery stores and many farmers markets to buy food. You can even use CalFresh to purchase food online through sites like Amazon and Walmart!

Los Rios partnered with Sacramento Food Bank & Family Services to create videos in English, Spanish, Farsi, and Hmong about how to apply for CalFresh.

Puente Project Named 'Program to Watch' by Excelencia in Education

Congratulations to the SCC Puente Project, recently named by Excelencia in Education as a "Program to Watch" in 2022!

Established in 1983, Puente Project provides first-year and transfer support to students, those of Latino heritage.

Puente's mission is to increase the number of educationally underrepresented students who enroll in four-year colleges and universities, earn degrees and return to their communities as leaders and mentors to future generations. SCC was one of three original “pilot” programs in 1983, and has thrived following the program’s model of English Writing, Counseling and Mentoring, through a Learning Community. The retention rate for 2019-20 was 87% for Puente students, compared to 58% of all students at the college, and 68% for all Hispanic students. In Fall 2021, 93% of all students in Puente passed their ENGWR 300 corset, and 96% have persisted to the Spring 2022 semester.
