Celebrating and Enlightening Sacramento History Through The Inspirational Literary Genius of Sacramento’s Joan Didion

On November 10, 2022, the Sacramento Historical Society (SHS) will celebrate the life and legacy of author and Sacramento native Joan Didion. The centerpiece of this exciting event will be the unveiling of a new sculpture of Didion that SHS commissioned from renowned sculptor Lisa Reinertson, also a Sacramento native.

This celebration will also launch a new partnership between SHS and Sacramento City College, where Joan Didion attended school in the early 1950s. The partnership will encourage and support future generations of writers who want to follow in Didion’s footsteps by establishing an endowment to fund the Joan Didion Scholarship for Writers. Proceeds from the November 10 event will go directly to supporting the Didion project as well as to community college students who, like the acclaimed author, also call our region home. While at the event, attendees can also view featured artwork from local artists and Sacramento City College Art Department alumni.

2023 Faculty & Staff Flexible Spending Account Open Enrollment is Here!

Now is the time for faculty and staff to enroll in a Medical, Limited Use and/or Dependent Care Flexible Spending Account (FSA) for the 2023 calendar year. You can use the FSA plan to pay for your out-of-pocket healthcare or daycare expenses with PRETAX EARNINGS. Simply designate a specific amount of your pay (before taxes are withheld) to go into your FSA to use for expenses you will have in the coming year. This is NOT medical/dental/vision open enrollment, which will take place in the spring of 2023.

If you enroll during open enrollment, your accounts will be effective on January 1st, 2023. Please note that you must enroll during open enrollment in order to participate in the plans in 2023. Your FSA elections DO NOT roll over from year to year.

For more information on the FSA open enrollment process:

You have until Friday, November 18 to log into the benefits supersite and make your FSA elections. If you do not enroll during the current open enrollment period, your next opportunity to do so will be during open enrollment next fall, with the exception of a mid-year qualifying life event. We strongly recommend enrolling early in the enrollment period so that you are able to obtain assistance, if needed.

Please feel free to contact Employee Benefits at benefits@losrios.edu if you have general questions, including questions concerning the enrollment process. For specific FSA-related questions, please reach out to BASIC Pacific at (800) 372-3539.
