Swift Response Saves Lives in Grant Street Fire Rescue
In a swift and coordinated effort, emergency responders from the Santa Cruz Fire Department, Central Fire, Scotts Valley Fire District, and Santa Cruz Police Department sprang into action to contain a fire on Grant Street. Thanks to their prompt response and efficient teamwork, all residents—including two dogs—were safely evacuated.
Our dedicated firefighters were proud that they could rescue the two dogs who were inside the building. Though the dogs suffered minor injuries, they are now recovering. The fire impacted two apartments and led to one person being treated for shortness of breath. We are immensely grateful for the swift and effective response of our emergency responders. Their actions ensured there were no other injuries. Great work, team!

Say Hello To Your City Workers!
Next week, May 5-11, is Public Service Recognition Week. Throughout the year, rain or shine, our City crews advance projects or repair critical infrastructure to keep our community and environment safe.
Here’s a photo of Ron, a sewer collection mechanic, and Mayor Keeley. The Mayor stopped by on a walk to say hello to Ron when he noticed him repairing a fence that protects a sewer access point under the Water Street Bridge on Branciforte Creek.
Give our crews a friendly wave the next time you see them in action. They’ll appreciate it!
